Another tough spot as the table bully

200NL $1/$2 blinds

Me: $576
Villian: $556.33

Villian has built his stack calling down with lukewarm hands and holding up. Loose/passive and plays about 40% of his hands even when facing a raise. I've been stealing pots from him, as he will fold to a 2/3 pot bet without anything. On a previous hand I bet a top pair 8s with 86s after being the aggressor, got called and we checked it down from there. So I think he's onto my little game.

One limper and I raise to $8, villian calls on the button. blinds fold, limper folds.

Are you serious, you have middle pair 10 kicker. Send that shit back to the depths of hell it came from and move on to the next hand. Or if your really feel like gambling push all in and type in the chat "Ship It!"

I put him on Ax and called mostly for table image because I didn't want to show a fold to a raise when I had a hand. Also, I thought I could hit him up for a bunch of money if I improved.

We checked it down from there and MHIG. I laughed.

Your last two posts have me re-questioning my passivity. Raising preflop w/ JTs & A8s? Wow I'd limp at best. All about leading the table, I assume?

I guess that may be part of the difference in playing short stack vs aggro + max buyin.

Limping sucks, particularly when they'll fold to a flop bet. With the right table texture I've built up to 150BB stacks a few times without showing a hand. They call 4xBB and fold the flop so often it makes my head spin. When they do call, if I have a draw I'll often get to check behind on the turn giving me 2 cards at effectivly no cost. When they catch on, I gear back down. If I'm lucky I'll catch a monster after pushing people around a bit and probably get more action than I would otherwise get.

I've been re-reading SuperSystem lately. Also, kudos to Rippy for showing me just how often you can get away with this shit against mediocre players.

Give it a little hollywood and fold. It's not that difficult. You know he'll be raising there with a better jack or any ace.

Yeah, I've exhibited this kind of play post-flop when people act like they have nothing (last two times I've join-blinded and got 72o I won the hand :)). Next step is to step it up a bit more I guess.

You don't run into problems raising the flop and then checking the turn? I'm always weary of exhibiting that kind of weakness. I've had it happen a lot too that people call my flop + position bluff or my turn (w/o position) bluff and then fold to another bet.

I usually just check my newbie blind unless I have the goods. Raising just looks too much like a bluff and gives me away as an aggro player. Also, I like to have a read on at least the table texture before making a play like this. At a really loose showdown table plays like this lose value.

Fnord, that is a fucking terrible call! You took a shot at the pot and got played back at. YHIG that time, but how often is it good?

When you make the 33 dollar reraise call, what do you plan on doing if the turn does NOT improve your hand and your opponent bets $40. Usually your opp will make another bet on the turn after making a big flop raise. I would think you would have to fold then. Now your table image has STILL taken a hit, plus you're out the 33 bucks.

PS - I've been destroying the $100 game. I'm +350 the past two days. At the tables I've been at I haven't needed plays like the ones you are describing to make lotsa $$.
