My Bankroll Management

I decided to open a seperate account for my poker purposes. I talked with the wife and will deposit $100 a month into this account which will then just go into my poker stars account. Now my question is this. My initial deposit a few weeks ago was $50 dollars its gotten as high as $130 and then as low as $39 but now is leveling at about $69 dollars. Should I
A. Deposit that $100 to my poker account the first of each month regardless of the amount already in my poker stars account

B. Deposit money only when the poker account gets dry, thus leaving money in my bank account and depositing to the poker account when needed


So Lets say I have $100 in there now, I lose it all tonight, I will not deposit any more money again until the 1st of the month. Then lets say the first of the following month I have $150 in there, should I still deposit another $100??

sounds like you're playing NL or higher limit games that are out of your bankroll. There should be no way you lose $100 in one night if thats your entire bankroll.

Even if you were playing .25/.50 limit you'd have to be one terrible ass limit player to lose it.

Actually, it doesn't sound like he's playing out of his bankroll. In fact, it sounds like he's continuously re-supplying his bankroll every month no matter what.

I suggest you deposit $200 and play at the micro's for a while. See if you can solidify your strategy, and you should be able to slowly build your bankroll up.
You should definitely not need to keep depositing $100 every month, with no withdrawls. I'm of this school of thought: make one deposit, and whatever that deposit is,play within your bankroll. Try to double your roll, and then withdraw your initial deposit and play with profit. I like to stay away from mixing my steady day job income with my poker money. Poker money should go one way - withdrawls. Rarely should you need to re-deposit if you play long enough within your bankroll.

Yeah, the whole point is to make money. Poker isn't some sort of casino game where you're going to lose eventually because of the house edge. If you've spent any time at all on these forums you must realise that you can be incredibly profitable playing poker, you just have to start somewhere. I would deposit whatever you think you need to start a roll at a limit you want to play at which isn't too high. 100-200 should be sufficient, go from there and try to increase it, if you're any good you'll be even for a while and then, slowly but surely you'll start increasing it, start bonus whoring and you'll never think about re-depositing again.

my bankroll started six months ago with two $50 deposit to two different poker sites. i turned the $100 into $1,000 playing $0.25/$0.50 limit HE, then $0.50/$1, then $1/$2, then $2/$4. at that point i cashed out the original $100 with no intention of ever making another deposit.

at this point my bankroll is a 100% freeroll. i can gamble it all and lose it all and not lose a blink of sleep over it.

but i only play in games that my bankroll supports, and i never spend my bankroll on anything. i just keep accumulating cash so that i can move up to the next level, and the next, ad infinitum.

this is what is meant by bankroll management.

That is all information that your computer gives out every time you visit somewhere on the internet. You can take off the tin-foil hat now.

If you're playing the same stakes all the time then create a bankroll that supports those stakes, and the swings of the game, then you should be able to play forever and make some money. Depending on your game.

If you want to increase your limits or the stakes your playing, then depositing additional money in your bankroll is one way to do it more quickly.

Alot of people don't want to go through the hassle of building $50 on micro tables to $500 for higher stakes play.

I wouldn't just deposit money into your online account monthly, like a mutual fund, though.

Well I deposited $50 a month ago when I first started playing this game... knowing nothing and that Money went POOF!!! bye bye

So I deposited another $75 about a two weeks ago and now it fluctuates up and down highest was like $130 or so and lowest is now $29 dollars. All I have been playing is SNGs, Last weekend was a good week I finished in the Money 5 of 8 times. This week different story I have finished out of the money everytime and the last four times has been a Fourth Place finish where I have the highest amount of chips and then get sukcered into a showdown thinking I have best hand for Example my latest game. Three Queens two fives. Only to lose to someone who had no business continuing to bet and get a K on the turn and a K on the river to Beat my full house with his. AHHHHHHH!!! so frustrating that when I sit down to play the game now I feel I will only do no better than 4th place

So I guess my next question is Say I play another 5 SNGs over the next few days. I finish again at best 4th place. What do I do now?? According to my plan I would not play Poker again until the 1st of April where I would then deposit another $50.

The money isn't an issue, I allot myself $300 a month spending money and My wife gets the same. I hardly ever spend my spending money on anything anyway.

But I get nervous about depositing it all at one time and then finishing 4th 15 games in a row and losing all my cash. I only play $5 SNGs for now on Poker stars until I can consistently win (which I thought was happening after my 5 of 8 money finishes last week) But then I tried to incorporate some blind stealing into my game this week and I think Im just flat out doing it wrong because I'm losing alot.

So what would you suggest a good Bankroll would be for $5 SNGs??

BR for playing SnG's is reccomended 15-20x the buyin. You might lower that to 10 if you feel you are a very good player... but since you are asking this question in the first place, you should probably stick with 15-20.
