Ace flush vs. full house

I really payed off some guy with my play here. How would you have played it :?:

I limp in from LP with (A:spade:4:spade:)
FLOP (3:spade:6:spade:A:diamond:)
I bet 2$
X raises to 4$
I call 2$
Turn (T:club:)
I check
X bet 2$
I call
RIVER (T:spade:)
I bet 25$
X calls all in 25$ showing (3:heart:3:club:) a full house 3's full of T's
I curse myself for not reading the set or at least betting smaller to
look for a reraise. The fact is that his small bet on the turn really made me think he had an ace and maybe flopped two pair. :evil:

His $2 bet on the turn really smelled to me. There was at least $8 in the pot at that point. When he bet $2, I would have check raised him to gain information. I'd have raised something like another $6 (at least) -- after all, you had top pair and the nut flush draw. When he smooth called my $6, I'd then be very suspicious that he had a decent hand: probably Aces up but possibly the set. If he re-raised me, I'd conclude he probably had the set.

At that point and with my betting above, after the river (and when the board paired), I would have made an exploratory, half the pot bet or so, something like $12 (no way could I have checked in that situation for fear of losing a bet with the nut flush). If he just called, you would have saved something like $7. If he raised my $12 bet just another $12, I would probably have paid him off (thus, losing even more money than you). If it was a big raise, I'd conclude he had the FH and let the hand go. That's just me. Either way, you were probably just destined to lose some money this hand. No real way that I can see to avoid it.

Maybe so, but I still think I should have been more careful. I had been playing really tight and well until then, had made som really good folds as well and was up 40$, so this pot put me back where I started 2.5 hours earlier. I think I should have feared the fact that my spade was a Ten more than I did. I was too happy to see the spade and got careless.

That's fine. Don't worry about paying off the full house when you've made the flush there.

Yeah I most likely would've done the same thing. Don't worry about it

if only we could see the other players cards. At low limit players do very stupid things, this will pay off 10x more then it will burn you. This is good play until you come into professionals

no way to find the set, he was gonna play it pretty slow, not trying to drive you out of the pot or anything. I'd have bet a little bit less on the river. i don't like doing stuff like that on the river, i feel like everyone is gonna fold except for people that have me beat, or at least >50% of the time. i'd put in a 10 dollar bet here. he might well reraise you to 20 anyway which you'd call, but he might not, and you're a lot more likely to get called by a losing hand.

An intelligent opponent will probably only call such a large bet with a full house when the board is paired, so I wouldn't go all-in here (not that you were up against an intelligent opponent, but it's probably best not to underestimate opponents). It's probably difficult to put this guy on a set here since a set should've made a much larger bet on the turn, but whatever, some people are strange.

Since he had position on you, it would have been difficult to come out without giving him a reasonable payoff. Even if you bet smaller, he could easily have put you in for the rest and it's hard to lay down the A high flush.
