Scary hand with AA

$1/$2 at PartyPoker, loose full table...

I get AA in MP. UTG limps and I raise. Two guys cold-call(?!) and then BB re-raises(?!). UTG cold-calls. I cap. Everyone calls. WTF?

Flop comes 524r. BB bets, UTG folds, I raise, someone calls, BB calls.

Turn is another 2. BB bets, I raise, chaser calls.

River is another 5. Dammit!! Any loose idiot who stuck around w/ bottom pair or top pair has now backed into a full house.

Check to me, I bet, chaser folds, but BB calls.

He has.... QQ! $38 pot.

Amazingly, we had 2-pair's on the board about 8 times in the space of 2.5 hours. Plus a straight and a full house on the board. It was extremely frustrating to have my good hands on the flop get (potentially) counterfeited by one-card boats, over and over again.

And I thought UB had some F'ed RNG!

T8 in the BB. Flop comes 997 and tricky aggressive guy bets out his button. I'm the only caller.

Turn is an A. I check and call.

River... another A!?

Check, check, I show my busted str8 and he has... 63o!!!

Un-freakin-believable.

You should be the one betting here. And, the only reason why he bet was because you checked to him. Your goal here should be to win the pot with a straight, or win the pot by making him fold before you hit the straight.

Was going for the checkraise but once nobody bet until the button, I couldn't force a double bet on everyone. As you can see, they folded to just the one bet.

On the turn, I checked because I knew that if I bet, he would raise and cap. He had been doing it to me all night, and I just wanted a cheap draw, especially heads up with no pot odds and a possibility of already drawing dead.

Fine, I'll edit mine.

You should be raising here, especially on the flop. That way if he does have trips he'll check raise you on the turn. But what do you do if you don't hit your straight on the turn?.....you check, taking your free card while you laugh at your opponent. Then, if it doesnt hit you would be forced to fold the river.

If you think you're opponent still doesnt have anything, then you should be betting here on the turn to see if he will fold. Most of the time, he wont show you down without an A or 9 in this situation.

Ac Kc in the SB. Raised and got 3 customers including the aggro man in LP.

Flop was 3x 5x 5c. Checked around to aggro who predictably bet his position. I called and we got HU.

Turn was the 9c. I check-called my nut flush draw. I know this was totally weak but I had been missing and missing draws all night at great expense. And again, I knew that if I bet, he would raise.

River was Qx. Checked, he bet, and I called for information since he had been outplaying me all night.

F*cker had... Jc 2c! I couldn't believe it.

Scariest AA hand yet...

$2/$4 PartyPoker, full table, loose

I get AA in the BB and raise, 5 people call because they're already in for one bet.

Flop comes... AQQ. YES!!!!!

I bet out, UTG raises, and everyone else folds. I'm thinking, "I know I'm supposed to 3bet here, but I have a practically unbeatable hand. Let's let this poor schmuck led the turn as well because he must be thrilled to have trip Q's, or even queens full if he's got AQ."

So I just call, planning to checkraise the turn, because what possible card could hurt me??

The turn is a freaking... third... Q.

I should know this guy's chances of having the case Q are extremely low, but that's what I put him on earlier, so now I'm freaking out. I know I can't fold, but I gotta see the river as cheap as possible.

So I check-call.

The river is a K. No harm to me, I hope he has that straight or queens full of kings. I'm just deathly afraid of the quads.

Again, I check-call.

He has... A8o!!

And I am so relieved that he doesn't have the Q that I don't even notice that I won the hand. Somehow my brain registers the hand as a split pot and that's what I write down in my notes until I notice my huge chip count two minutes later.

Now, I know I will get blasted for getting so weak on the turn and not putting the guy on an ace. I didn't have a prior read on him so it never occurred to me that he might raise me from EP with something as poor as 2 pr, weak kicker.


The main point I want to focus on is that, had *any* other card fallen on the turn, my planned checkraise maneuver would have been more profitable than the missed 3bet on the flop. I hardly ever checkraise any more after reading SSH, but this seemed like a virtually risk-free opportunity and it is just ridiculously bad luck that I hit 1 of the 2 cards in the deck I did not want.

It's often better to bet out. One of my biggest leaks is c/ring the river too often when I hit on a scare card.

of course i checkraise all the time!!
