Folding When you hit on the flop, a tough task.

I consider myself a relatively good poker player, i dont play online i normally play home games with 6 or 7 of my friends. Some of my friends are fishes while the rest are decent and one a pretty good one. I normally win money with my friends except when I hit a good hand on the flop and i cant lay it down.

One game I had KTo UTG so i called the big blind, one person raised 3x BB one person calls and i call also.

The Flop comes K 6 2 rainbow. I bet Pot, one person calls (the one who raised pre-flop), the other folds. Now i respect the player who called me as he's one of the better ones, and I put him on a pair of kings. Well crap im thinking, Because he could easily have KJ or KQ, or even worse AK. the turn is a rag, i check knowing he's going to bet, he bets 8xBB. At this point I think he has me out kicked, so i fold. Was this the right move? He forgot what he had when i asked him afterwards.

Next one is more of the usual hand where i feel almost forced to stay in and end up losing. I'm the dealer and i deal myself 99, one person raises 5x Big blind, one calls, i also call.

The Flop Comes Q J 9, the Q and J is suited one person ahead of me bets twice the pot, I put him on AQ wanting to get people out of their flush and straight draws. the other person ahead of me calls, i think about it for awhile. I'm pretty sure the person who bet first has AQ, as he raised before the flop. But the 2nd one i consider a fish, i think he could be slowplaying the straight he hit or just chasing his flush, or maybe even a straight, or both. I see my 99's and i just cant fold it seeing the potentially huge pot. The next two card are rags, but one is the same suit as the Q and J. The fish was all in on the turn so i ended up winning a decent side pot, but it turns out the fish hit the flush, so i lose most of my stack.

This hand really confuses me because i have no idea what the right play is, should i have folded, thinking the fish was chasing his flush or maybe hit his straight already? And maybe the 1st to act hit a set higher than mine?

Please help me out on when to fold and when not to after hitting the flop.

In the first hand I don't mind the limp pre-flop or even the call. On the flop You had TP decent kicker you bet and got called (automatic warning sign given your read on the player). The turn is where I have a question on your play. You have to bet at it (this time at least 1/2-full pot)because checking shows weakness in this spot and you want to know where your at in the hand. You we're repping the K post-flop and then you checked on the turn giving your opponent the opportunity to snatch up the pot (in other words you showed weakness). If you bet and get raised fold, you bet and get called check fold the river (unless it's a 10 then you gotta bust him). In this situation i'm putting him on AK no doubt based on the pre-flop raise and the call on the flop.

In the 2nd hand....It depends, me I don't know because every time I'm in that spot it's all about feel and reads but sometimes you gotta gamble because worse case you still have outs to the boat or a 4 of a kind(~20%). But on the flop what happened to the first person and how did he bet as well as the response of the fish? From what I'm gathering it seems that you all went all-in on the turn...is this right?

The first person bet 2xpot and the fish thought for a bit then called, i couldn't tell if he was thinking about his draw or smooth calling with a straight. on the turn a rag came up, the first person made a 1/2 pot bet, the fish went all in, less than the bet, and i called. The last card gave the flush, he bet a good amount of money, i reraised all in, and he folded to my suprise.

Ok reading it again and going through a lot of situations like that this I'd say you were not screwed but in the end the river sucked you out.(allow me to theorize for a second):

Player A repped the straight (but I don't believe he has it based on his pre-flop raise) and bet out so he can get a caller (your fish) so he can max out his value for the straight he is repping. Granted it's risky but it pays off more than you might think. When the fish called you have to say to yourself draw (hey you pegged him as a fish so you gotta peg him for drawing as well) Now you hit bottom set on a super-sized coordinated board so you want to tread lightly...so calling wasn't that bad of an idea but a raise on the flop (and no min raise either mind you) would be better off just to see where you're at. I mean a 5xBB raise pre-flop and then he's betting 2xBB post-flop you gotta think that something smells.

In this hand If it was me I re-raise...maybe even push all-in. Curious what did the fish have?

lol ur really having trouble reading my post i guess because i said the fish was on a flush draw and hit. And the first person did have top pair.

I did say the river sucked you out right??? (as in the fish hit the flush). I should clarify a bit...what cards was the fish holding that he felt the need to call a 5xBB pre-flop. My guess is Ace-mid card like a 7 or an 8.

Edit: Just one other thing in this particular situation, with your position and the correct reads you will get paid off in the end

Hehe. barely worse. All those hands pwn you.

The second one is a pickle. I'd steer clear of it unless I was perfectly okay with rebuying and playing lots of pots, the way you sometimes get when it's a bunch of friends. The straight and flush possibilities suck, of course, but don't forget that with big PF raises you could easily be against a higher set, too. Making your outs for the boat 24-carat dead.

Did you not recognize this possibility, or do opps behave differently when they've got QQ or JJ?
