What are the standard rules for who has to show their hands at showdown? Obviously anyone claiming to win, but is anyone else expected to show their cards if requested? I have an idea that if you call someone's river bet you can see their cards, but is that true and if so, is that the only case? Just wondering because this has come up a couple times in my home game.

anything that goes to showdown you have a right to see losing hands. it's usually frowned upon if you keep doing it though.
that's why online on party some people would fold (even when the pot is huge), even if they had an option of checking so people wouldn't know what they played
Does the whole table have a right to see what goes to showdown or just people who were in on showdown?

I think the question here is this...
Say 3 people go into the showdown. Sometimes online, the cards for one of the losing players will be flashed on the screen at the showdown, and the others won't. Why is that? What factors decide if the cards get flashed. I realize you can look it up in the history anyway, but why some losing hands automatically show and some don't?
some people have muck losing cards checked, others don't. the people that show all losing cards every hand they're in should be added to your buddy list.Quote:

sounds reasonable. i wouldn't know cuz i've never played live before. all i know is online, the best hand will always be shown, and every losing hand has the option of mucking it.Quote:

The rule allowing a loser's hand to be seen has a specific purpose. It's to help prevent collusion. Although technically you can ask at any time, it should only be used if you suspect collusion and for no other reason. It's just poor etiquette to ask a loser to show his hand for the purpose of gaining information or simply out of curiosity. Also remember, if someone folds a hand at showdown and then is asked to show and that hand ends up being a better hand, then the person that originally folded is determined to be the winner.

Online and at casinos it is true that the agressor is the first to show, then others show if they win, and much if they don't.
But at my home game, we rarely have this problem. But on the occations it comes up. We just go in order of how it was delt. BB, CO and Button all go to showdown. BB shows 1st, CO either shows or mucks, and Button shows/mucks last.
If it is a problem, there should be a rule. But I don't think it matters as long as it's fair and aplies to everyone.
A little nitpicky here, but that's kinda true. That only applies if the person asking to see the cards is the current "Winner" If anyone else at the table asks, the dealer will tap the cards on the muck to kill the hand before flipping them over, meaning even if they do show the best hand, they still don't win.Quote:
