help on psykology

first of all sry for bad eng... Anyway .. i have played no-limit holdem for like 2 months now and I actually starts to win some ^^ I have gone throw everyting there is to read in the subject. I also have played quite a lot! I tend to win a lot in the beging of one session but when something bad happends I can't controll myself "I go on tilt"... Tilt for me is not like calling all in with J 8 or limping with AA at a full tabel. But I play bad anyway... I change may play in some strange way so I start to loose...

An exampel is at a freeroll MTT, 7000 peopel, a lot of luck involved and so on.

In the begining i 4 dubbel my stack or something playing a tight smart play.. i might lay down AK or QQ if it jepperdise my whole turnament. And do smart bluffs and such things. Then suddenly... Someone gets me bluffing or I get a bad beat at the river.. "okey bad bad" I think and now I might just have dubbel the avrage stack.. now something weerd happends to my head! Im hurt! I cant let that little loss dissaper. And suddenly Im ALL-in with AK eventought I KNOW IM BEAT ... How to deal with this problem... I know how to play but I cant do it! Any good advice? =)

Controlling tilt is just one of the things that comes with experience. After you play a good deal, you learn that bad beats are part of the game. There is nothing you can do about it. You just have to come to the realization that you can't win every pot and even your best starting hands lose sometimes. Once you can accept that fact, you will be able to bounce back from the occasional bad beat and continue to play your game.

Yea, it's not a dumb question. My suggestion was at least partly serious - sometimes it helps to mellow out :wink: . When you feel yourself losing your focus, step away from the game until you get your head back again. Take a break, kick back and try to relax. If you are in a SnG and bust out, don't get right back into another one if you are pissed off by a bad beat. Sit back for a while and let yourself cool down.

It's like getting behind the wheel when you are drunk, or even tired: You are putting yourself in a losing situation if you stay at the table when your mind is not straight.

Here are some basic things to keep in your mind at all times.

1. It is not personal.
Do not blame "bad luck." In poker, everyone is out to get everyone, but the cosmos is not out to get you.

2. Analyze where you think things went wrong with your play.
If you are not able to find them, look harder. Maybe ask around here or other forums that have great players. If you did play it correctly, then you have no reason to be upset and will profit in the long run without needing to alter your playing.

3. Keep in mind the long run.
Most of the time bad beats seem like it was a huge loss of money, but when you look at your total earnings it should not be that bad in terms of percentages. You should only be concerned if bad beats begin to overtake your earnings above a certain percentage you have pre-determined to be your variance threshold.

I hope this helps. Think about these things next time and hopefully it will help keep your focus.

hehe... thx guys! Im going to really try some here... this problem goes back throw all games i play. I tend to "give up" when i get a loss. That seems like a huge problem in this game. But i will really try to stay focused and not steam away... It can't be that damn hard!
