Did I make the right call here? JJ

I'm at my regular poker game with people I've known for years and been playing with for months. $2 buy in. Big blind is $.02.

Six player table, I'm the BB. I get dealt JJ. Here's how it goes down. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

Tight conservative player #1: raises to $.20
Tight conservative player #2: folds
Loose aggressive player: Calls
Mr. Brainiac: Calls
ME: I'm holding JJ. I figure I've got everyone beat and I want to steal what is on the table. So, I raise to $1.50 hoping everyone puts me on AA and folds.
Tight conservative player #1: folds (turns out later he had QQ!)
Loose Aggressive player: folds (turns out later he had KJo)
Mr. Brainiac: Says "I know I shouldn't but I'm going to call." Calls

Mr. Brainiac then proceeds to turn over his cards even though nobody is all in! He has A2s.

I say "We're not all in."

He says, "Okay then, all in"

Now, this is an illegal string bet but I figure I'm the HUGE favorite so I don't object. I just call.

We turn over our cards and......

he gets his Ace on the flop. I lose. :-(

what did I do wrong? what did I do right?

Played it perfectly. You got a better hand to fold and got all-in as a huge favorite. Reload and win back some money!

BTW, did Queens really fold pre-flop? Did you see his cards? Otherwise I would be really hard pressed to believe it...

BTW2, if you *really* want to be a prick, Mr. Braniac technically mucked his live cards by showing them to the table before going all-in. At a B&M you could point it out and scoop the pot right there, but it's not a good thing to do to friends.

Well, my house rules would say that since he showed his cards as a misunderstanding, you cannot increase the betting, but you play the hand as all in.

However, that is not the question.

Yes.

I'm sure JJ is a big favorite to A2, and you knew what he had. I can't see anyone folding a $.50 bet in a $4 pot with a superior hand.

JJ was the 71% favorite - can't complain about that.

if mr tight conservative really folded QQ, which i find hard to believe, you need to start bluffing all of his money away.

I saw the QQ. He was pretty mad when he saw that he had folded to my JJ, but I did put 3/5 of my stack in pre-flop so he could have reasonably assumed I had KK or QQ. He also would have lost to Mr. Brainiac so it ended up being a wrong call that save him money.

Of course, I tilted after this hand and ended up washing out for the night. Stupid me.

I gotta develop discipline.

LOL, that was interesting, and well-played, just unfortunate. But what's funny is how to even play those micro-stakes!!

I wonder if raising a nickel could buy you those .02 blinds...

HA - the answer is yes. I've bought the three cent blinds with a nickel. Still, its just enough to keep everyone "honest." If we played for chips, people would bet stupid.

It is funny that each of our chips are worth MORE than the amount they represent.....
