Hey guys.
What are the hardest things about learning to work with ranges?
I'm going to use the answers in future strategy articles here on FTR.
Thanks.
- estimating their size and relative size of their sub-ranges during play (ie the relative size of villains call/raise/fold to one another when facing our bet)
- gaining the ability to strategise for ranges over multiple streets
and of course, the main one,
- learning how to think about two ranges at once (ie our range vs theirs and how they do)
I got one reply.
I swear you people are hopeless.
and i dont even poker lolol
ok so as an side of sorts, i am very seriously considering starting to play poker again for a small side income and other personal reasons. if i do decide to do this, my entire study routine is going to be working through this latest spoonitnow series. he is GIVING this community free poker coaching and responding to people's questions, maths workings etc to an extent that would have earned at least $40-50/hr in a different, but still reasonably recent, online poker climate and market. this is precisely the content and delivery of information i would have gladly traded many, many buy-ins for a few years ago struggling like fuck to move anywhere past 100nl and believe it or not, actually putting in a fuckload of hard (albeit incredibly inefficient) study time.
Sorry for the late response
I'd be interested in reading about having more than one balanced bet size in a spot (maybe river bet would be easiest to analyze?)
Also, I struggle with visualizing my range as a whole, especially in spots I'm not comfortable in. I want to improve in breaking down my range postflop in 3b pots oop to make sure im not cbetting or folding too much.
1. In the first place I find it really difficult to give an opponent a range based only on his stats.
Can u break down the stats correlating to ranges / pattern in future lesson / guides?
For example when deciding preflop calling range look at: 3bet pf, vpip, pfr, ...
2. Deciding which pattern derives from that for the opponent e.g. betting with range x, checking with range x
3. Implementing the insights to concrete playing situations
Hey man, I appreciate the feedback.
I got the same kind of responses via PMs when I asked this originally (check the date of the start of the thread to see what I mean), and I actually built a lot of the NLHE Foundations Course around learning how to do all of this, so you're in luck. ;)
1. I struggle with outliers, like when I have HH showing a 3bet with K8s when he's only 3betting 8%. Is he aware? Does he have a read? Or is he just clicking drunk?
2. I struggle on the flop deciding what kind of air/semi-bluff hands might peel - I trend to estimate too tight. Especially with looser, passive players. And if they're peeling too much, how to maximize my equity.
3. I struggle to deal with really wide preflop ranges, both for passives and aggros. And then what to do with them.
4. I'm pretty comfortable with TAGG-reg ranges, because that's how I play. So the ultra-nit ranges and loose ranges confuse me. I usually just fold vs. nits and lose money vs. the loosies.
