Villain was spewy and a bit of a blufftard. I had been in a couple of pots with him earlier where he bluffed river just like this in a similar situation and I called and won the pot. Villain was running @ 37/13/0 over 249 hands.

On the turn, you need to decide whether you're going to get it in or not. If you're not, then you should fold. If you are, then you should take the line that you think gets the most value. Given the description of Villain, I think the line that gets you the most value would be calling the turn and checking the river to give him another chance to bluff.

On a more general note, any time you make a bet, you need to think about what you're going to do if you face a raise before you make that bet. You don't need to plan for him calling since you don't know what the next card is going to be, and you don't need to plan for him folding since there's nothing to plan for. As far as planning goes before making a bet, facing a raise is the only thing you should be considering every single time, and a failure to do so is not only a major planning mistake, it's the only way to make a planning mistake.

As played, the river is an easy call. You only need to win something like 25 percent of the time for a call to be correct, and it's clear from your description of your opponent that you're going to.

Fantastic information here. Thank you. I've seen/heard people pound the drum of "always make decisions this street with the next street in mind", but nobody's emphasized how preparing to handle a raise is the most important part of planning...and then explained why. I appreciate it.

Well, my rationale behind call, call shove was that I didn't want to put him off the hand. I was hoping he would keep betting with his top pair or top two pair, etc. The fact that he rivered trips on the same card that gave me a full house was just perfect. when he laid out the 1/2 pot river bet, I knew he had the k and just shoved for value knowing he would come along for the ride.
