Bigred - Imgur is pretty much the worst thing to exist, ever
I used to visit every single day... but more and more often there'd be dumb shit, like stories made into pictures about people's lives and shit that may or may not have happened to them, seeking validation from the imgur community... weight loss stories (fuck that shit)... sob stories "lost my job due to evil corporation"... shit politics being pushed on you... gay agenda this, bleeding heart liberal that, and if you voice so much as a modicum of constructive criticism you're downvoted to oblivion.
I would go there for the funny pictures, but the site has the groupthink mentality of an 11 year-old girl.
Fuck, I remember there's this one pic where a girl is holding up a cardboard sign saying "I was raped by my friend - I woke up the next morning and he said 'well you were all over me and I just kinda went with it' - He was found NOT GUILTY" and the comments - with only three lines of text to base their decision on - are all lambasting the bastard who raped her. Yes, raped, even though he was, by the supposed victim's own words, found not guilty in a court of law. Fuck. That. Shit.
On top of all that, the site is just a major fucking waste of time. When will you ever truly learn something from it? When will anything you see on there come up in actual conversation with reasonable people who don't live in their mother's basements? What positive value does it generate for you?
Oh and before anyone gets worked up by my "gay agenda" statement - let me clarify. The site does push a gay agenda on you. Not just a fair gay agenda where gays shouldn't be discriminated against, treated fairly etc etc. But one where anything homosexual is praised no matter what.
For instance, one poster, a highschool student, put up a picture of himself running a marathon. He was wearing pink fairy wings. The caption read something like "after years of torment, I am finally brave enough to do this. All of my feels". Are you fucking kidding me. How does wearing fucking pink fairy wings represent anything other than acting like an idiot? Why does this individual have to make his sexuality the business of others? That's the kind of shit I'm talking about here.
Making your sexuality the business of others let's others know that there's nothing wrong with various sexualities. The more a person interacts with LGBT people, the less likely they are to assault them, discriminate against them, legislate against them, etc. Not only that, but it let's all manner of non-traditional people know that it's ok to be different.
But yeah, imgur, aside from a place to quickly host photos for free, is aids. Complete and utter time sink.

@ Bikes & @ Boost I get it, mine isn't exactly the least controversial opinion. I just prefer these things be left low key i.e. while I'm all for gay rights, right to marry and what have you, I am against things like the gay pride parade, which I find rather obscene.

Nope, you can't. Reddit is full of reactionary drones, and the only way to get around that is finding the right subreddits. The drones tend to not read anything but instead down or up their preconceived notions. After thinking about it a little I'm not sure what you have against my viewpoint. If we were to argue whether outward expressions of homosexuality and things like gay pride parades have had their place in changing mainstream opinion over the years I doubt I would raise any points to the contrary. I probably should not have said that I was "against" gay pride parades as that can easily be misconstrued as saying I don't think they should ever have existed though.
