lately i would prob fold preflop with a hand like this in a hyper turbo 98 o is just a crap shoot in such a hyper turbo short stacked situation.

I'll usually call this pre because of odds. Flop I can bet, but also check, my hand can easily be outdrawn so mostly for pot control. If the K pairs I'd bet again if I bet the flop. But a check is possible too, I'd need a read though. Since you called from the blinds people will put you on a wide range, so call river.

I'm not convinced calling river is good in general at this stake against a villain we have no real reads on.

Someone convince me otherwise please.

This is indeed not an auto-call at low stakes. And how often people will try to bluff you also depends heavily on how you have been playing, not just a read on your opponent.

He doesn't have a lot in his range that beats you. Flush draws often bet the flop and he obviously doesn't have a K very often. I guess he could have a 9 that has you outkicked, but people don't usually use that sizing with that hand. Many players also bet the flop with 2nd pair in this spot (same logic for if he had TT-QQ).

If he's betting for value on the river, it's most likely some turned boat (slow played 2 pair or set on the flop). There's not a lot of combos of that, and I'm discounting all the other value hands because he didn't bet the flop.

Sure he could have the winning hand, but there's a lot of air that bets here because you checked the turn.

FWIW, I don't think this is a close call on the river as played. I think it's a fist-pump snap call that I make without even thinking twice. Same with preflop. I don't think for one second about folding. I press call faster than he can raise.

I don't think people are nitty I just think they are really passive and call with hands they shouldn't like a weak flush draw in this situation. That's why I think it's stupid of me not to bet the turn and I think the river is much closer than being implied. Betting a decent amount like that on the river after being so passive seems to me to be quite a strong hand usually at this stake.

People at this stake do bluff the river if you both check the flop and turn quite regularly but the sizing is usually pretty obvious in that they bet far too much/little. But they don't see checking the turn after betting the flop as a weak play, so aren't going to be bluffing that often. Well, obviously some people are but it'll be obvious by their stats (and sizing a lot of the time too) and if I'd been pushing the guy around (which I hadn't) they tend to adjust by shoving crap on the flop, which I happily call, not the line taken here.

I think you're giving people credit for level 1 thinking when they aren't even at that level.

the more confused you are OTR the worse the turn check is. he started passive, assume he'll stay that way. most of his range benefits greatly from a free card.

his line is so weird I would have to call on the end but I don't like it as much as everyone else.

i really dont like the call preflop

in nash u could get away with a jam if there was no raise

in exploitive mode u can min raise if no raise in front

but really dont think you should be calling or completing out of position with those stack depths

think the positonal disadvantage is not helped by any passive play

With 18bbs effective size stacks 98 is good in nash

If you complete, then you have to stab at the flop, then when you hit a piece you are quickly getting committed with a not very good hand out of position.

After someone tells you once that you have read the hand incorrectly, it would do you well to look at it again before you write more things that are incorrect.

I think shoving in a spot like this is just silly. We have exactly the same amount of fold equity by just like min raising and villains just aren't going to be 4bet bluffing all that often, so even if people are shoving here too wide it's still with stuff that beats 98o by miles.

Cheers for bumping it though is quite interesting that I would now be betting a turn like this so much more happily than I was then. I'd still be pooping myself to the river donk though, but when betting that defines his action much more, although I still don't think many villains are trying to take down the pot in a spot like this as a general population read.
