He had a fold to 3bet of 78%, which is why I opted to flat pre. If we ever did have much history, I couldn't remember it. Otherwise his stats are 26/24/8%3b over 468 hands, flop cbet 74%, turn cbet 37%.

What were villain's steal stats and was 0.12 his standard open?

I also think I like 3betting pre, 78% isn't too high and I think he continues with much worse given he is on button and has position.

his RFI on button at about 40%. i believe this is his standard sizing also.

If I'm flatting pre, it's not with the intention of folding at any point in this hand. I'm calling down, and then taking a note on what he overbet with on the turn.

I prefer 3-betting this pre. If he's folding 78% to 3-bets would it not be better to add more bluffs whilst still 3-betting your premiums. Instead of flatting strong hands because you don't want him to fold pre.

Regarding the turn, i'm kind of lost if you call here your going to have to be willing to call most rivers if you think he is bluffing. There are a few draws out there although you block the Ax of spades. You could raise all-in, he might call off with his big draws and some worst Ax (AT AJ). Obviously calling all his sets and 2pairs as well. You should stove a calling range if you jam and see how much equity you have, another benefit is you aren't playing a guessing game on the river if he bombs it.

problem is, there are hardly any big draws out there really (we also block the NFD), and I can't imagine him taking this line with AJ (it's the first time i've seen him do this ever), so I feel his range is very polarized to 2p+ and air, so shoving will ensure that we'll only get called by better. Those are my thoughts anyway..

And re: 3-betting, I guess it is better now that I work it out - 40% RFI, then say he folds 75% of it to a 3bet, you're left with the top 10% of hands, so his continuing range would contain plenty of worse A's. That's of course assuming that he tends to call ATs instead of T9s, though, but I guess safe to say (esp since I'm 3betting enough that he'd think I'm bluffing some of the time) he'll likely call with AQ or AJs.

Honestly if this is a reg, I don't mind just calling down here and seeing what's up.

Also 3b pre, and I don't think it's particularly close. If I flatted pre it would also be to raise Axx flops some of the time. I might even stick to this gameplan despite his overbet.. but yah now that he overbets flop I lean more towards just calling.

I've seen turn overbets before, after regular sized flop bets but its rare you see flop overbets. I don't see why A8/888/555 would do this. Maybe he has 58 or something? Or 67ss, 79ss, 46ss.

Villain is obviously in love with Viktor Blom. Seeing the overbet and mad aggression in action at the low stakes certainly gets you thinking about the game in a new light though:

As played, I'm tempted to jam it in on the flop and get called by weaker aces and draws. Problem with that is villain's line looks so FOS that we potentially don't maximise value with the near nuts, so I'd probably chk/call flop and chk/jam vs the overbet on the turn. If he has it then fair play to him for levelling me.

Otherwise, I 3-bet pre for value, as typical button openers never believe a resteal. If he's folding his button often though then we still need to 3-bet ak imo, as we are going to have so much shite in our normal re-steal range versus this guy that we need to have some value combos in there as well.

I'd fold it here but call down on a higher stake. More likely that it's for value on lower stakes.
