No, I'm not turning tricks. Sorry to disappoint.
I'm heading to Vegas today, I plan on slipping 20 to the check in guy at my hotel Vdara, but considering it's march madness. Is this just throwing money away?

I have no idea what you hope to accomplish by tipping the check-in guy so large.
What would this buy you?
Under normal circumstances you get a "free" upgrade. But since it's march madness, the hotel might be so overbooked that it won't matter. Thus, the question.
Am I the one whose out of touch, or are you the one who has been watching way too many movies?
doh. :(
There's a full thread on this on 2+2. Had sucess before.
may I suggest asking in that thread
Only time I tried this "trick" ended up becoming a socially awkward penguin moment as the female clerk handed back my $20 saying: "you've already paid for your room, sir".
9 posts in, and I'm still unsure if this thread is one giant *wink wink* innuendo.
They were all booked but didn't lose 20 either
You had success with this before Luck?
Luck, always yes. It's never throwing monies away and small risk for giant reward. def worth.
Yep. Don't remember the upgrade though. Plus, it is small risk.
I palm people $20 in every handshake I give.
It's how I got thrown in and out of jail.
having kitchen facilities is the tits imo
Sounds like a question to bring up with Greg Raymer, he's stayed at plenty of hotels and knows the ins and outs.
Just be upfront and honest with them.
Ask for a discount or upgrade when booking.
If they say no, then book somewhere else.
Haggling and bartering is a very old tradition.
Worst poem ever. Didn't make me feel anything.
leave the 20 to the maid, money better spent.
never underestimate the value of clean sheets.
