32% pot odds for a call.

What do you think about his range ott? I can't picture him doing this with a FD, even with overs, would he not have raised the flop almost always then? Slow played trips also seem unlikely because of the FD otf + possible straight draw. PP also unlikely... Can't see a lot I beat.

When he donks the turn for < 1/2 pot, I have him on a draw wanting a cheap card or a PP wanting a cheap showdown or a monster trying to induce, but when he shoves over the raise I can see only boats or AJ.

Raising the donk bet is standard, amirite?

Against a range of AJ,QJ,33,88 I have 35%, which is about what I need to call when taking rake into account though.

i'd call it off now. did you plan to raise/call or raise/fold? why did you pick that option? if you didn't make a plan, why didn't you make a plan?

The plan was to see whether he would fold or call :D

On a general performance psychology note, whenever you make a bet (or raise), you should always anticipate what you will do if you get raised. There's no need to anticipate what you will do if your opponent folds because the hand will be over, and there's no need to anticipate what you will do if your opponent calls because you don't know what cards will come on the next street.

As played, make sure you're raising enough on the turn that your decision against a shove will be easy, whatever that decision may be.

Agree that I should decide in advance, I was kinda joking with my plan in the post above, what I meant is that I took being raised for the least likely scenario.

But even if I am worried about being raised I think it's wrong to just call the donk bet.

I am a little wary of the donk bet to start with (against a tight-ish villain) and if I raise more, I am committed and there is no room to fold anymore. Also villain does not seem to be the kind to call stupid amounts with a draw or second pair, so maybe I loose value if I raise more and he folds.

On the other hand if I raise less I am not charging his draws quite enough.

2/3 pot seemed about the right amount, but true, I'll have a tougher decision if he raises, or if he calls and the river is a diamond or completes a straight draw and he shoves.

Best guess now is that it's possible he does that with worse trips so I should call, but I still don't like it (maybe skewed judgment because I recently dropped a lot to beats and tilt just before my planned glorious arrival at 5nl).

I like the turn raise and I think you can include some draws too. Especially stuff like 9Thh, QThh, AThh, 79hh where he's got additional outs to just the flush. You can also add JT, KJ and J9 although obviously there aren't many combos of those left.

One thing to think about when raising turn is you don't want to make it so big that he thinks he's got no fold equity and flats all his draws - you want him shoving over the top as you dominate draws, and you want him to shove as otherwise he can check/fold all missed rivers and shove any river where he improves to beat you, and you'll have to call it off cos of pot odds
