Anybody interested in a thread on The Theory of Poker?

So i'm getting a lend of David Slansky's Theory of Poker and am thinking of making a thread similar to Carroters NLHE Theory and Practice threads, where we could work through each chapter and generate hopefully some in depth discussion regarding the topics covered within the book.

If anyone's interested reply to this thread and we'll take it from there.

Is this his book related to NLHE or the one where he talks all forms of poker?

If it's his NLHE version, I'm in.

I think he uses examples from other poker games but i'm sure the concepts will apply to NLHE as well. We could start with theory of poker and then move onto NLHE theory and practice after, just a thought.

I will pass on the first one but count me in for the NLHE book.

I always giggle when people pass up on Theory of Poker.

I think you are doing yourself a disservice to ignore other forms of poker. There are interesting concepts in 7-stud that are blatantly obvious to learn. Those concepts are subtle in a game like NLHE, but they are certainly +EV spots to exploit. Learning to isolate them from the white noise of all hands/flops/villains is easy when you see them presented in a different form. The same is true for all poker games.

But forget all that and play them because they're fun. Use play money on PS and start goofing off. Or invite some friends over for a night of dealer's choice.

Ill help. I reread it all last month and it was fantastic. I'd strongly encourage listening to spoon, as the concepts apply directly to NLHE and in a big way.

I'm getting the book today so i'll read the first chapter then start the thread tomorrow, then start a new chapter every Wednesday till we're done, we'll have plenty of time to discuss each chapter that way.

Yes, i think that would be better.

ToP was the first poker book I bought. Pretty sure I haven't cracked it in almost 4 years. Count me in till I get bored with poker again.

I started out by playing 7 card stud in the pub.
I wouldn't go back to it though.

I'm sure there is some good theory to improve it,
but I find too little opportunities to influence and too much chance involved in limit stud games.

I still play RAZZ occasionally just for fun.

What's happened to this 72? Don't tell me it only lasted one week haha?

I admit I didn't get involved in chapters 1 & 2....

... But 3+ is where shit gets real

I am actually massively interested in this. If OP doesn't want to do it I can quite easily make a thread for a chapter each week (first two in one week as suggested).

Cobra can vouch that I'm on my computer enough to definitely be able to do it.

We already did the first 2 chapters Savy, but if you want to continue it and post a chapter a week I am deffo up for it. We have a few people interested so hopefully it picks up a little bit from the 3rd chapter onwards.

I was going to do it every Sunday. I'm partly through chapter 2 myself atm.

Thought this thread was a crash and burn also had to take a few days off poker because i was extremely tilted, that's why i never did chapters 3+4. Savy take it away sir.

I think the next chapters are big enough to do one chapter per week.

I'll get round to it some point this weekend.

Going to sit down to do a bit of uni work now and when I've finished that I'll attempt to write something for Chapter 3.

Chapter 3 doesn't need an essay. State the theorem, then we all post examples and discuss.
