Destroying implied odds?

This is from the sticky article on Why You Suck at Limit Hold 'em. I am really new to poker. Really. New.


I understand the first part of the sentence, but what does it mean to "destroy implied odds?" I have been raising the flop with open-ended straight draws and flush draws because of advice I got elsewhere. I am playing .02/.04 on Lock. I've been playing LHE for about two weeks. I lost most of the money I started with but am slowly coming back up.

I would rather not risk large numbers of bets if I should just be calling. Is this a way I am losing more than I should be?

Appreciate all advice on what I need to know to play these draws correctly.

I have not read the book, I am guessing that the context is that you increase the size of the pot thus reducing your implied odds

The main advice that I can give you is not to do something just because someone told you or you read it in some book, analyze and understand the advice and then decide in which situations it is correct to use it

It means that if u don't have enough players to raise your draws profitably (u need at least 3 villains to raise OESD for value and and two to raise FD and 1 to raise monsterdraws in the vacuum with no other factors like fold equity considered) you are loosing money in the long run. What u want is to trap opponents so that they are forced to stay in the pot.

vs 1 opponent on flop I'd have made a mistake of forcing playes behind me out with my raise, but with two it was a value raise and there was no need to think about what players behind me would do. But as u see the guy behind me called my raise, so it was even easier for me to cap it for value

Oh, I think I get it. He's saying with "implied odds" that to presume you'll have odds on later streets, you need the players to keep betting. (Implied means "assumed," really. The odds you assume you'll have.) Thank you.
