Streaming HD movies from computer to PS3 over wifi doesn't work very well. Xbox suggests my router (provided by Verizon) is shitty and too slow. Being that it's cyber monday, any good deals on a router that can stream HD .mkv files?

Stick with any well known brand and you should be fine - Netgear are generally solid in my experience
Plexapp.com for streaming. Then get plex on iOS.
I have an apple router thingy, but it's too limited to do anything serious with it. But it wirks!
Sounds like you might be using older slower WIFI standards 802.11a or 802.11b.
Although it is more likely 802.11g which should be capable enough.
But the newer 802.11N is recommended for HD
Note it has to be Gigabit 802.11N (10/100/1000), to see any improvement over the 802.11g (10/100),
some Ns only support 10/100 and not the gigabit streams.
But first check what standard you are using on your router, it may be configurable, (it might be set to 802.11b but actually have a G or N capability).
Also remember that all your devices need to be capable of the same standard, so if you use a router set to the gigabit standard your 10/100 laptop wifi card might not be able to use it (even though the standards are supposed to be backward compatible).
