Do you feel that the online games have become much harder in the last 1-2 years?
yes games have gotten significantly more difficult. and as such players playing online poker have gone to more douchey, scammy methods of making money because smaller edges, less fish.
everyone good in america moved abroad and everyone who sucked stayed home which will obviously have a massive impact on the difficulty of the games
How much more difficult are games. Early 2011 vs. Today. How does that compare vs. 2008 vs. 2011 and Party Poker days vs. 2006
Are you glutton?
I've only played since 2007.
Games are much more difficult now. I was winning like 3.5ptbb .5/1 - 1/2 fr on FTP in early 2011 and now I either suck or games have gotten absurdly difficult.
2008 you could just wait to hit TPTK+ and stack someone. Literally the only hand reading you had to do was, this reg raised, he has a set. Or this fish minraised the turn probably time to fold my 1pair hand.
Some would say I am. Who am I to argue. I have a wicked fast metabolism and work out every day to compensate though.
I may lose my job this month, what should I do?
zzzzzz. tired. ty for all who asked questions. dunno why no one who actually is attempting to learn poker ever takes advantage of these things.
bikes, apologies if this is too general, but could you talk about some breakthroughs you had in becoming a poker god? Be as specific as possible...
1. Has it crossed your mind to go looking for jobs yourself? How easy is it to go from grinding full time to do a full career switch and do something completely different? Obviously age is a limiting factor here.
2. I find that one of my flaws in my game (and I'm sure it's a common issue) is that I let myself play through tilt/fatigue/other suboptimal mental states, and later regret it. I don't seem to ever learn. Do you have tips and techniques to train better habits?
Your biggest poker leak? Or what you should work to improve on most?
Your thoughts on my biggest poker leak? What I should try to improve most?
Would you rather fight a horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
Why do I, along with most of the BC, suck at poker?
I have some time to kill before the plumber gets here to fix my hot water.
First off I am not a poker god. The highest I've ever played is 5/10 online and 5/10/20 live. Neither of which for a significant sample size. I am awful, probably worse than stacks but he admits it so damn often that I am sure it's a level.
The most important thing I did was I made friends with two very awesome poker players. I certainly did not try to befriend them to become better at poker but because they were awesome people and we were all trying to get better at poker. One was wicked good at FRNL and the other is a tournament genius. I sucked at the time but eventually got better and could participate in discussion at a non-drooler status. Friends are so important for about a billion difference reasons though and I am extremely fortunate to have the friends I do.
The second most important thing I learned is fish love calling but regs love folding to aggression until they think you are completely out of line and then they love calling as well. If you can build that maniac image preflop then they automatically assume you are a barrel happy spewmonkey postflop. Which was and still is extremely useful. Just get your 3b number something highish and then watch as no one ever believes you ever. Even in 3b pots if people call the flop and turn they probably aren't folding any river. This is an extremely large trend I've noticed for the last few months.
Finally the most important thing in poker is BRM and tilt control. It used to be the case that if you didn't tilt and had good brm you could move through the stakes if you were non-drooler status. I think that's probably still the case. Just gotta put in the hours.
God damn plumber.
I have jobs available on both sides of my family in both family business though the faux floral business may be completely sunk.
If you aren't playing professionally, playing during sub-optimal conditions is something you are just going to have to deal with though I would suggest not playing while tilted. It's just going to be the case when you have to go to work every day and then in your free time you want to play some poker. You are going to be a little tired, probably a little annoyed and obviously not in the most optimal state. I really have no idea how to deal with this except not to play which really is not an option for you because you'd probably never get to play. I guess try to just manage it the best you can and remind yourself everyone you are playing against is likely in the same mental state as well as they just absolutely blow at poker.
My biggest poker leak is that I get lazy as well as I play too much when I'm depressed and I probably should be doing something else. It leads me to do absolutely retarded things on the table.
Your biggest leak is you know what to do to frustrate and confuse other players but you don't do it. Also your confidence hinders your ability as well. Just work on what I told you and you'll be fine. As to your confidence? I unno go out and get laid or something. I can't speak too much on confidence and self esteem building things as either my ego is the size of the moon or non existent about 95% of the time.
Those 100 duck sized horses are about to receive a free clinic on kicking technique.
I would assume it's a combination of lack of time to devout to poker as well as a complete lack of effort to actually getting better. The state of the BC is actually pretty pathetic atm.
FTR used to be a group of friends who were all trying to get better at poker. It certainly helped we all played professionally and could bounce all these ideas off each other and were interested in improving each other's game. Now it's just like w/e, that spirit of community is gone and is unlikely to return as an overwhelming majority of us have moved past poker.
I had a very good friend talk about why that spirit is gone. Posting strategy in a public forum as gone way down in EV in the last few years. Basically now when someone good posts a strat post he is throwing money into the streets and everyone is kinda scrambling to get it. Then came a time when people began to dictate the matter of which the good player should throw his monies into the street. Obviously this doesn't sit too well so the good player stops posting because he's not gaining anything from this anyway. This has lead to the death of actual strat discussions from good players in nearly every forum except this one in SHNL IMO.
What do you look for when determining if villain has already adjusted to your strategy? When do you know to get in to / get away from the leveling game versus the regs? How often are regs trying to level you in your opinion?
I feel that a lot of people here think reading spoon's articles, posting hands and playing lots = improving. Which it is, to a degree. But I feel that at some point you hit a wall, that it takes something more to break out of the micros. What do you have that we don't? Commitment? Or something more?Quote:

What can we BCers do to improve the BC as a place to learn?
it becomes very obvious if someone is adjusting to you over time. in the short term you cant tell anyhting because someone may simply be running hot.
if you think you're more capable than the regs then by all means go for it.
not very often most are just trying to grind and win pots against fish and then do retarded things vs other regs.
1) How important do you think timing tells are and does it ever cause you to narrow or widen a villain's range significantly?
2) What's your favourite form of the game and why?
3) Tits or ass?
Cheers in advance.
Can you tell me the difference between this forum and the forum who shall not be named? ( with a + in the name )
What was the first music you ever spent your own money on?
If you gave the BC a homework assignment, what would it be?
where did you learn to give such good life advice?
Describe the perfect house.
Does some bitch stay there? Is her sister hot?
Great song.
Couple of questions from me:
- if you could change one thing about FTR, what would it be?
- what do you think the main differences between low stakes and high stakes cash are?
- how much poker do you play atm? do you think you'd play more if online poker was legal in the US?
-roll back the clock 4 years.
- people at low stakes think of how they are playing their specific hand, high stakes people think they play their whole range in specific situations
- not much, trying to do more. i'd play a lot more if ftp software was in america atm.
what scares you about playing me or being me?
I want to talk more about this because it's a great story.
There was once a FTR member named animal_chin who betrayed a house of the red color. The house like anon, does not forget nor does it forgive.
One day two prominent members of the house stumble upon a BBV4L thread posted by one, animal_chin, the thread was a cry for help for advices on how to seduce some girl who wanted to be math study partners or whatever. The girl in question was like a 7ish and our animal_chin was like a 3.
So what does the house do? The house let's the thread progress for a while and eventually sends the link of the thread to the girl on facebook with an explanation of what the thread was and to avoid animal_chin at all cost. animal_chin realizing he's been outed demands answers and the house, which is the color of red, takes credit and is swiftly banned by the 2p2 gestapo for 'trainwrecking'.
I'm not saying he was right or wrong, but a 3 after a 7 is not a huge crime. I think a fact is missing? What part was wrong? So I don't make the same mistake?
edit: Nevermind. I think I figured out he betrayed earlier and this was retribution
Yeah what'd he do to betray you guys first?
i can't particularly remember.
What happened to m2m's blog?
Who is that in your avatar?
I'm not going to disclose why because that's his business but yeah he's done with FTR. Incidentally he's the like one of the last remaining hs posters here as the other one quit as well.
I'm feeling a need to re-evaluate what I am doing here
Hey, just to clarify I'm not quitting posting here altogether. I won't be around for the next couple months though since I have some things to take care of and the forum is just a distraction for me at this time.
If anyone needs me they can inquire about getting my skype from bikes.
Now allow me to get this thread back on track.
Bikes: What do you think of the Chinese government?
to the Islamic fundamentalists and Chinese Central Security forces currently planning my demise...
I'm sorry for party rocking.
