Table Selection w/ Little or No Data - Top Tips Please

Greetings, O Wise Ones

OK, so I've just moved up to 10NL. Yay me, etc. etc.

But....I obv don't have much data on the player pool, and what I do have has been gleaned from 2NL/5NL so may not be hella reliable.

Sessions so far have been mostly tagging exercises - i.e. choose what look like the loosiest tables in the lobby, play a few orbits and see what I can see on each of the players there, then do a Joe Strummer (as in "Should I Stay or Should I Go", for the terminally unhip).

Any Top Tips for making this a bit easier, or is this just the way it is after moving up?

colour coding seems to be the best way. can be as simple as green for people you want to play with, red for ones you dont. after a little while you'll be able to spot good/bad tables from the lobby. or you could just cut back on tables and play any random table as it starts up, adjusting to the table conditions as you perceive them. i like doing the latter.

Good tables tend to have massive average pots and a waiting list 10+ long. Watch these tables, figure out who the waiters are bumhunting, make notes as you watch, search these people out to add them to your search list. Before long you'll have a nice juicy list of 10nl donks to bumhunt.

Ong - when you say "search list" do you mean the Find a Player thingy on 'Stars?

'cos it seems that a lot of players use the "Hide" function to ...errrr....hide from that.

Or do you maintain your list elsewhere?

but I have a question for anyone here who plays on PartyPoker - how do you get your tags to show up in da lobby?

i believe you have to purchase it - i used to use table scan turbo (used to be free but now just a 30 day full use trial)

Takes a bit of work to egt set up however - but definetly worth it.

Not sure if this is quite what you're asking, and it might be stuff you already do, but when relatively readless here are my "insta-read" fish-signs:

1. Posting blinds out of turn - anyone willing to pay extra to play OOP is someone I want to play pots with.

2. Weird raise sizes, ie. minraises or really big open raises.

3. Slowplaying in anything other than a really good spot for it.

4. Limping a lot obviously

5. Limp-reraising obviously

6. Sitting short, unless an obvious shortstacker with auto-topup to some short stack size.

7. Showing down wierd suited crap (other than like a BB check or whatever)

8. Calling down and folding the river where an obvious shitty draw was possible.

I'm sure there are more, which perhaps others can add to this thread. These are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head that set my alarm bells ringing and begin to build a fishy image of a player for me.

Yeah I meant seach. If they "hide", well I sometimes scan the tables for fish I have notes on but I'm lazy so I usually only resort to this if I can't find any online fish from my shitlist. I don't have a seperate list.

Out of interest, if'n you join a waitlist for a table, and get placed as a seat becomes available (i.e. you don't choose it yourself), what are you on the look out for in order to make a decision?

e.g. "nits on your left and fish on your right" is a bingo scenario. what would constitute a "run for your life"? and what would be a "meh, let's wait a few orbits, and see"?

Depends who the target is. If the target is sat to my left I might go find another table, but it depends how much of a drooler he is. If he's the type to spew when he's ip, being oop might be better. Or maybe the fish calls too many raises on the blinds and then folds to lots of cbets.

I'll fuck off if there's too many nits to my right.

sit every table. get reads on regs. label regs as regs. within 4k hands you should have a very good idea of most every reg on the site.

What do you mean when you say "reg" players?

regular...?

regs = regulars = players who are regularly at the tables = people who fashion themselves to be grinders = the villains you will be seeing the most.

The fish come and go, but the regs are always there.

mini-update - post- latest HM2 upgrade, Table Scanner seems to be behaving in a more expected kinda way.

however, there's still some stuff that doesn't seem to work like setting up table "scores".

anyone got any info?
