Yeah, your sizing wasn't great, too much is left behind on the river to get called by worse (well, who knows, maybe you did, but it's less likely than if you'd set up to have a smaller shove left).

There's 83 bb behind with an 8.5bb flop pot, so if you bet 8bb on the flop, there would be 75bb behind with a 24.5bb turn pot, a 20bb turn bet then sets up nicely for a river shove of 55bb into 64.5bb

You don't even need to go that big - say 7bb on the flop, gives a 22.5bb turn pot with 76bb behind, bet 18bb into that, and the river pot is 58.5bb with 56bb behind.

Generally, I don't think you need to think these things through too deeply, just bet the flop big since often it'll be the only bet that's getting called, so you really want to get your value there, and you can get a 0.9 x pot bet called just as often as 3/4 pot. Then, if you get as far as the turn and still want 3 streets of value, look at what will get the stacks in - sometimes that means betting slightly smaller on the turn if it's a 3bet pot or a raise has happened, so you leave villain in a spot where it's difficult to fold the river when you shove it for like 1/2 pot or whatever. Just get in the habit of thinking this through as the hand plays out, you don't always want a pot sized shove left, so really you need to think about what outcome you want from your bet sizing then think a step or two ahead to set that up.

$1.25 pre. as played i don't mind flop size because he may fold like KQ and stuff if you just pot it, but on the turn there's a far bigger chance he's actually caught a piece so i'd go $4.5 minimum.

I was gonna say the pre should be bigger... prob 1.25 or so.
