Poker implosion

This is a bit of a whine/rant, so you are warned.

I took a bit of a break from poker, and dealt with some life stuff, and recently I came back to it, and started grinding again.

Its going awfully and I cant even beat 4nl anymore. I really dont know what I'm doing so wrong, but Im apparently spewing money like its nobody's business.

Im generally trying to play tight, opening something like aq+, 88+ from utg, adding a few more hands with better position, stealing blinds when I can from button. As far as post-flop goes, Im cbetting most HU pots from oop, and generally trying to play pretty tight. When im ip, I try to be more aggressive. Honestly, it seems like im playing with my cards face up sometimes, and Im not really sure why.

Tips anyone? Or need any stats info?

without knowing anything else you should consider the following:
call less. Bet more. Raise more. Fold more.

Fold more. What are your stats?

The biggest improvement in my game came from reducing the number of tables until I could better take notes and label people. At micro stakes, players are pretty one dimensional. So figure out their style, which takes between 10 hands for complete idiots and 100 hands for most others, and adjust your strategy for each. If you don't know how to adjust from a 40/30 to a 12/10 to a 70/6 etc then there's your problem.

Just to recap a few things from the sweat session, some general things that I noticed most:

1) You cold call too much. You probably learned here that it might often be profitable to cold call a CO opener OTB with 98s, but when you start "extending" that to calling EP2 raises in MP2 with J8s, you've got a leak.

2) Thinking that raw aggression will be enough. You on multiple occasions raised with a crap hand from the blinds after 3-5 people limped, got multiple callers, and tried to muscle the pot away from them OOP postflop. You at least had initiative, but with huge disadvantages in position and your card strength. I had a feeling you were firing away in the dark hoping for folds without considering opponent ranges.

This won't really fix any of your leaks but if you're still on cake you should think about switching to 6max. Tables are way fishier and there are more to choose from.

Also think you should post your stats in here so you can get a good berating. Do we have a stats check up thread? We prolly should.

The major problem here is a lack of patience.

Coming back after a while out, and particularly when you're not a *good* player,
your best bet should just play tight and just ease your way back in.

During the sweat the other day, I noticed you were playing more hands than you really ought to have been.

I mean that sounds like a pretty massive leak in his game you pointed out.

bluffing OOP with marginal holdings into a multi-way filled with loose players has all the right ingredients for demolishing one's winrate.

thanks for the tips mates. Im working on playing only about 3-4 tables now instead of my usual 11-12 until i get back in the swing of things.

as far as stats go, are there any in particular i should be posting, or just positional stats and such?

and heres a HH from one of my tables today. MP was an unknown, SB was a 21/17 who had been noticing that I was stealing blinds from him, and was beginning to 3bet me more often from sb/bb.

i figured given his flop c/r, he pretty much had tptk, a set, or an overpair. either way, i figured the flop raise would the call, as given his aggression, i would probably end up stacking him everytime i hit my draw. turn doesnt help much, except to give me two extra outs vs tptk/ overpair.

setting his range as KK+,99,77,AQs,AQo(i would have expected qq to 3bet pre for value and iso), ive got like 27% equity, 2.23:1 pot odds, roughly 3:1 for equity, and im making another 3$$ whenever i spike the nuts (maybe 85% if were going to nit pick)

thoughts?

since i cut down on tables, its been going a bit better, but thats only been maybe 500 hands out of this 24k

Where's your fold vs 3bet stat? That usually holds one of the keys to microbonk failure...

fold to 3bet is 65%
fold to pf 3bet is 67%

ive been playing pretty aggressive with 3betting preflop, which might be a mistake

U don't fold nearly enough to preflop 3bets, and it's highly likely your 3betting preflop so much IS a mistake if the rationale is as it appears above (i.e. to get people to fold, but not thinking about the continuing ranges of those you do it to).

At 4nl fr you'll prob have a lot more success playing like 15/12 as opposed to 24/20. If you wanna open up your game more play 6m. You can run like 30/25 quite profitably even as a Shit player, where as playing that loose in fr as a Shit player is just gonna cost.

yeah you're playing way too f'n loose. If you were good enough to play that loose you wouldn't be playing the micros or asking us about your stats. I also don't see a 3bet%

stop cold calling so much shit cuz u cant play it post well ur best off trying to drop the bottom of ur range in most spots aside from opening the button and cutoff so that ur vpip doesnt exceed 20. google the gap concept or something to get a better feel for why (i tihnk i t was written for tourneys but still sorta applies to cash)

start to think about what you are 3betting/calling/folding out of the blinds and why. what is your opponents opening range? continuing range vs 3b? how does your strategy look vs theirs when you take into account positional advantage/skill advantage/equity (card) advantage/initiative.

also yeah you are wayyy too active for a beginning FR player, and you're not folding to enough 3bets.

3bet preflop: 10%
3bet flop: 13%

usually in the blinds, im 3betting a somewhat polarized range, eg ax, kx, big pps vs loose players with high steal attempt %s, and tending to flat with my strong ax hands that have a good chance of having them dominated.

vs tight players who dont steal, im 3betting pretty much only my utg opening range

i generally try to never flat call unless its a situation where there are multiple limpers, and ive got something like a low pp or scs, and im looking to see a cheap flop multiway where ill pretty much know straight off whether or not its worth continuing on the flop.

i probably dont think about opps continuing ranges vs 3bets enough, and spew money accordingly there via 1 or multiple streets of cbetting.

anyways, im taking a mental health day today, and getting back to the grind after.

i think another issue that ive had is that ive been doing marathon sessions, and basically playing from the point that i wake up to when im too tired to stay awake.

im going to try to go back to playing a pretty tight game, and see how it goes. ill probably post stats again in 10k hands or so, but it will probably take longer than the 2 days it took last time.

and im gonna cut down on tables for a bit.

and study more in the bc.

i still have trouble with session reviews/posting hhs. i do it sometimes, but certainly not nearly as much as i should.

and cake finally removed the session-only stats restriction \o/

I was wondering about that. The player names are now visible on my hud but I'm still getting session only stats. Are you getting full history stats?

It's fun to play poker online and a very rewarding experience to me. I can connect with other players and experience the thrill in playing online poker against the best of the best.

I love your vpip/pfr/3bet if you're great, or even 'pretty f'n decent' postflop.

If you're not, you're either gunna learn in a hurry or crash & burn.

These stats look like a low/midstakes laggpro who's watched a lot of CR vids and may or may not be winning. levelthread imo

FWIW, Something that stands out to me is how high your W$WSF is and how low your W$SD is. I'm thinking you are playing very aggressive but trying to make guys fold that won't go away. Obvioulsy guys are folding enough to win seeing flops, but once they ae ready to showdown they seem to have it. Tighten up, Learn what flops to Cbet and Barrel and stop trying to make people fold better hands in spots where they will never fold

with regards to pokering, yeah, im working on relearning postflop play :d
