benefits of learning cap?

i don't know of anyone on here who regularly plays cap except yaawn and m2m (if you guys still do), but i'm interested in anyone's opinions. so i've been thinking lately of starting to try to learn some cap strategy. i feel like playing perpetually short-stacked will sharpen my feel for how pot/fold equity/effective stacks combine in the EV of a given play, which i think would help me sharpen my feel for spots in 100bb games where i could/should be being aggressive and leveraging my fold equity etc where i'm currently not. plus i think it's a good idea to become capable of playing different stack sizes. that said, i've never played cap and am only speculating. so, what are people's thoughts on the benefits of playing cap? any other ways in which you guys think playing cap is good for poker development? also, are bankroll requirements roughly the same as in 100bb games? i imagine it would be more swingy due to the amount of preflop flipping, and having to push marginal +EV spots perhaps more often than in deeper play.

CAP is great, if you are a rakebot.

i think i heard something about rake being too high to beat it under 2/4 or maybe 1/2 (on pokerstars) so i don't think it would be that beneficial to learn it under that

rake is absurdly bad at .5/1 and under and is only rly bad at 1/2

Look at where rake is capped and how much the usual cap pot is.
Whether it's absurdly bad or really bad, it should be the same for 1/2 and 0.5/1 and prolly only becomes worth a consideration at 2/4 and higher.
The skill advantage becomes higher the deeper the stacks are and most ringgame regs only start to make really big mistakes after the flop.
I've only played 100, 200NL cap for very few hands, but from what I've seen the relative mistakes that are being made are much more exploitable at the deep tables.

cap runs more at higher stakes, more hands/hr for sne chasers.

forces u to learn where u make ur money from precisely otherwise u cannot win period.

makes u more well rounded player, etc. i can tell you from first hand experience that learning how to play diff stack sizes effectively has made me a way better player at both short and deep stack play.

If you just want to learn playing various stack sizes. you can also play tourneys or SNG's. They also teach you the preflop push or fold game when you have less than 10bb, which may seem pretty dumb but even in that, there are some tricks to learn if you've never done it before.

Not really the same as sng game. If you start shoveing like a maniac with a shortstack in a cash game you will most likely get called by AK, AQ, mid and high PPs.

And ye, most of players at CAP are huge losers without rake. Nits and tags will be sortof a winners with rakeback. And only really good tags can crush it. I remember back awhile while 20-50BB tables were predominant, and i was playing 0.25$ NL, so it was a 10$ for full buyin, and bunch of chinabotshortstacks with 5$ buyin (but its essentially the same thing as playing CAP because whenever any1 wins a pot ratholes outta table). And i was checking like everyones stats at ptr. And it was mostly the same stuff, grinders grind rakeback but their graph goes down, a few not so impressive going up graphs from tag regs, and only ONE!!! good winning player. I think he was chinese, but the graph...nanonoko like :mrgreen:
