What are your guys thoughts on Hit and Runs at 2nl?

I know its not a way to learn to be a good poker player but i keep breakin even cause I will pick a big hand get maximum value from it double up. Then and a few short hands i will either get KK against AA or Get some horrible sukout... I mean i know they happen but it seems i show a better profit when i pick up a big hand get up half a buyin or more and just Run. Jump on another table and rinse and repeat. Is this just a terrible way to play or should i just buckle down and take the wins with the loses and breakeven and leave 2nl in 2 years when rakeback finally rolls me for the next stakes?

well personally i dont mind if i'm up or down so far, i'm always keen to bet when i'm ahead.

that said i understand what your saying. One thing to be aware of is that its possible that when you stick to a table for a long time and win some or lose some you may lose focus and begin to play with leaks. Thats when you need to get up and chill for a second before sitting back down.

personally I've played perfectly against fishy fish like at NL2 and run 10+ buyins backwards due to suckouts. just keep at it aslong as you can review the hh and honestly say you got in ahead.

EDIT: if your getting up a bit, then losing your entire stack because you next critical hand was with a big stack then i'll say yeh its ok to hit and run if this is screwing with your head. tilting is like being drunk, it can come on slow or fast, and it really screws with your decisions.. people who drunk drive do so because the drunk-ness makes them think its ok to drive while drunk. dont do that.

Well if you double up to $4 and everyone else at the table still only has $2, then it changes nothing right?

If you double up and you have good players with $4 stacks to your left then consider moving.

If you double up and you have fishes with $4 stacks to your right then consider staying.

Also, the game is very different with 200 or 250bb effective stacks compared to 100bb stacks, in the same way shortstacking is not the same as playing with standard 100bb stacks. So it also depends on your level of comfort playing deep.

There is a post somewhere on here about the considerations when playing super deep, can't find it just now.

I've been wondering about this at 10NL. What makes a player hit and run? I've seen them do it after they suck out, after they win a big pot with a cooler, or if they win because their big preflop hand held up.

I don't understand it so please, all you hit and runners, take a minute to explain why you do it.

Fish do it because they think it's "quitting while ahead", or "protecting their win" or whatever.

A decent player might do it if means sitting with deep effective stacks vs a good LAGG who has position on you.

Stop focusing on the wrong things and play some poker.......

Do what your comfortable with when it comes to your money. Other players thoughts of right and wrong have no bearing on what you should do. If you feel like your in a bad spot leave the table.

There seems to always be these times in the BC where a lot of unnecessary thoughts start taking over when your thoughts should be on ranges, HH's and table/game selection.

You say that the big hands you win are cancelled out by the coolers and suckouts. When I see people saying things like this, I tend to wonder if it's actually true. Do you have data to show that it is?

If not, then maybe you'd benefit from some. For example, what if you actually win more with your big hands than you lose to coolers and suckouts? That would mean you're losing on the rest of your hands, which is quite a different problem.

And frankly, while I haven't played 2NL in quite a while, my initial thought is that your assessment may be inaccurate. At that level, I won far more with my big hands that held up in big pots than I lost to coolers and suckouts.

You are drawing a correlation between a past hand and a future hand that simply does not exist. Each hand is independent. The odds of you losing KK to AA after doubling up are exactly the same if you stay at that table or if you move to another. The only relevant point raised by others is to move if there is another deep stack to your left.

Trust me, the scenario you outline above is not why you are breaking even.

Yeah dude, what you don't realize is you're getting sucked out on at some point regardless. If you're deep and there's a whale at the table, preferably to your right, stay. If you're deep and there's a deep laggy on your left, leave. I suppose you could leave if you're not comfortable playing deep, but you should learn to at some point and there's no better place than 2nl.

Don't mean to derail the op but was wondering about "playing deep". Our play only changes if we are deep AND there is another deep stack in the hand, right? 100bb v 100bb plays the same as 200bb v 100bb bc when considering spr we only consider the smallest stack. Am i way off track?

Yeah, you can only put in what villain has left so if everyone else @ the table has <100bb, then you're still playing the same game.

True dat! It sucks but all I think about is "Damn I hope a bigger fish fills that seat!"

For me if I double up and I am comfortable with the players at the table that are deep stacked then I just focus on trying to do it again. If there is a player at the table that is deep and I don't want to go up against them then I will sit out next bb and move on. Or make sure I avoid him unless I am ahead.

Considering most "ratholers" are playing a bunch of tables, it's not like you can't win your monies back from them.
