A n00b question:
What stats are the most important for me to have on my HUD and why?
Currently I have:
Vpip
Pfr
Afq - not sure what it is
% fold BB to a raise
% 3bet (preflop)
% fold to 3bet (preflop)
% hands never folded
Thanks

Might want to add his aggression factor and def the total number of hands that you have on the villain because several of these stats won't really start to mean a great deal until you have several dozen hands or more.
Once you have some hands under your belt and have gotten your PF play down fairly decent, then I'd look to add %4bet, % fold to 4bet.
AF% can be misleading. If you're bound and determined to use it, then go by street and not total AF.
My HUD is simple - VP$IP / PFR / ATS / Hands. I use the popup and notes for everything else.
VPIP / PFR / steal / fold vs steal / 3bet
I think these are the main concerns
Hands/ vp / pfr / 3 bet
Ats / fold to 3 bet / fold to flop Cbet / Cbet flop
You know what's fun? Turn off your HUD if your playing 4 tables or less. You'd be surprised at the things you notice over a session.
Going to start working on this soon. I tried one session and didn't do too great, but I think for the times I do this I'm going to drop down a stake or two so I don't spew too badly
I think it can really help you improve quickly though. Also, once I get good at playing without a hud I'm planning of grinding cake for a bit for their first deposit bonus.
When I got back into poker. I played all of 2nl and most of 5nl without a hud. Even at 6 tables you can keep up with enough action to make good notes. This was August 2010.
I tired that last night on a couple of tables in 25NL, didn't go too well (down 1.5BI). I'm thinking that this means I've started to rely too much on the stats. I'm also thinnking of dropping back to 5 or 10NL and run without a HUD for a month or so, to try to get more focused. Do y'all think this is a good or bad idea?
<<Sorry for the thread hijack>>
Cake is THE fishiest site I've ever played on. My win rate on that site is more than triple what it is on Stars/Tilt. But I can't stand their software so the only time I ever play there is when they have a reload bonus. Once I reach it I cash out for the min $500 check. Ezgame. :p
I only have preflop stats on my hud. I don't care much for what a 17/14 does post flop until I actually play a hand vs him and then I use the pop up anyway. It makes me slow down on decisions too. I found that I see a lot more of what's going on with less clutter and unnecessary stats on my hud.
Just seems weird to not have a plan preflop based on postflop.
Edit: I know A LOT of players who only have preflop btw. I had only preflop for awhile too but for me it's just better to plan out a hand based on more than preflop.
At $5NL-$50NL, do you really expect a huge variety between the bad nit taggs postflop?
