Groundhogs Day

Because of the recent event I've seen this movie twice in the last week, and flipped through it many more time. When it came out I was in middle school so any discussion on what you would do revolved around "steal every candy bar from the store and try to eat them all" and what not

What would you do now if you found yourself in such a situation? You could literally do what ever you want with no consequences.

For one I would get the fuck out of town, there is no snow in the morning so you could steal a sweet ride and expand your horizons somewhat. You could go to Atlantic city and memorize a roulette wheel and be super rich for a couple hours or something.

Otherwise I would definitely pull some GTA moves. I'm thinking a flame thrower and trying to burn down a vast majority of the town. Also a sniper riffle. I could never rampage the streets with a AK-47 though.

Also I would blow up a water tower, seems like that would be good fun.

Does the day which we repeat have to be groundhogs day? And are we always bounded to the same wake up-location which was where we woke up on this groundhogs day?

I would rape and kill everybody. Literally just rape and fight to my death for a 1000 straight days. I'd have to assume that once I break free from the binds of perpetual GHD, I will emerge as a battle-hardened badass the likes of which the world has never seen. All people will fall into two categories, those I've killed and those I've raped.

I've got family in Punxsutawney, PA and let me tell you that time does indeed stand still while you're there. And I've seen this groundhog up close on numerous occasions and I have to say that the little bastard is a fraud... but not as big of a fraud as that Long Island Larry or whatever the fuck his his name is. Groundhogs Day would be a veritable hell. You would quickly fall into the deepest of depressions, then would gradually develop psychoses. Being the sole survivor of a zombie apocalypse would be heaven compared to the mindfucking of repeating days.

Having said that, I would just become the perfect hedonist. Groundhogs would be excellent if it lasted for a relatively short and known period of time. Money, blow and whores. After about a year the mental breakdown would run full force.

I'm calling BS on being the SOLE survivor of a zombie apocalypse being better than this. With that, dying alone is imminent. With this, endless possibilities abound within what the boundaries of your mind allow.

Simply, the ability to change location should be enough to keep you from going totally bonkers. Groundhogs would do some crazy crazy things to the human mind. Things like you can't actually change things, you can't improve things, there is no progress, you would gradually lose your sense of identity, and things would eventually become the quintessence of pointless. Knowing that you're doomed to wake up in the same spot as yesterday and tomorrow indefinitely would making surviving an apocalypse like a cakewalk. Even living in a post-apocalyptic world as depicted in The Road wouldn't compare to the devastation of losing the most fundamental aspects of hope, ego, time, control, etc

It would seem like just being a complete hedonist would be the best way to go. Finding out in advance would be insanely beneficial as you could somehow secure a line of credit or a lump sum of cash. Starting the day over and over again with like $50 to your name and no credit would be aids.

While repeating the same day, at least the opportunity to get laid is still present. After a Zombie Apocalype, it just isn't happening. For me, either way, I'm riding solo, but for some, I would imagine this is quite the concern.

I would spend most of my time planning for the events that would take place on the last day of GHD, assuming I would know when it would end.

If I didn't know when or whether it would end, then it would be a little risky to go out on a rampage imo.

But that's besides the point. From other peoples replies it would seem that we are immune to even death; if we die we just wake up the next morning anyways. I did not realize this at first, and this completely changes the game plan. I think once death is not an issue, we would have way more fun not ever using money. When you perceive everyone just walking around following predefined paths like robots and seemingly (let's not go there again) having no free will, you would probably have a hard time empathizing with anyone.

That got me to thinking you'd probably want to do some raping and killing the first few days of ghd and figure out some more productive hobbies later.

I guess if you were allowed to prepare for ghd you could always stack some guns, ammo and perhaps a samurai sword so that you could rampage for exercise every now and then (assuming your body doesn't reset).

I think body resets but that doesn't mean your mind does so feel free to learn all sorts of new shit.

Awesome post. I could not murder someone in cold blood (stabbing, choking, etc) thus would probably not do even though it had no real world consequence. However I think burning and exploding things is cool, but I can't/won't do these things because of real life. I would def be a bomb/pyro expert when it was all said and done.

I am staying the hell away from hard drugs. If you retain memory throughout the whole ordeal, then brain damage would presumably carry over as well. Just alcohol might be dangerous. For all we know, GHD could last hundreds of years. It never says in the film.

It's been a while since I've seen this movie and don't remember if he tried it or not.

He tried, but always failed to stay awake past like 4am or something.

this would be similar to finding yourself in a lucid dream, as far as consequences go. usually the first thing i want to do is find a female and bang her. there would come a point where you would separate yourself from every other person and conclude they're not real, your actions don't matter, etc. i can't say with a straight face that i wouldn't get a hold of an ak and blast the hell out of a bingo hall.

i would go through periods of insane depression, of course. like days where i would wake up and just kill myself instantly, like murray did. i guess it all depends how long this would last. 50 years would be okay, but if you're talking anything extreme like 10,000 years, not so sure i'd want to go through that.

also, it would be very easy to get a hold of a large sum of money if you worked at it for 2-3 weeks, maybe not even that long.
