5NL FR in the BB vs SB - flopped nut straight - extraction

First hand at the table, no reads.

Flop, he donks and I like to call because I don't want to raise him off his hand. With the super wet board, he can easily put me on a draw and I think there is a decent chance he will fire again on the turn.

Turn I raise to setup the stacks for the river.

I know the line looks very strong and he probably folds a good % of his range on the turn.

Any other way to play it?

raise the flop, after he limp/calls preflop hes gonna have all sorts of XhXh hands that you need to charge for a turn card.

Without reads I'd raise the flop as a lot of his hands aren't folding to a raise (top pair, pair + straight draw, flush draw, 2 pair etc etc).

There's also quite a few scare cards (20/47) for his range that can come on the turn (any heart, A, K, 9, 8) which might stop you getting value.

It's true that he has XhYh hands in his range, and also when he doesn't, if I just call the flop and a heart comes on the turn, he will probably shut down. So yes, I think a flop raise is better here.

Right on, even more turn scare cards. Defo raise the flop.

You have to raise the flop because we NEED to build pots at these stakes with the nuts and this is the perfect time. He's telling us he's interesting in the hand.
