Top Pair & OESD in SB raised by BTN w/ wet flop ($5NL, FR)

I'm in the SB and the BTN attempts to steal. I defend, he calls, I have TPGK w/ an OESD on a flushy board. I bet and get raised. I don't have a lot of hands on the villain, but I've seen him attempt to steal a good deal (particularly from me!) and otherwise is pretty straightforward (20/15/2.0). I don't think I fold here, but do I call or shove?

Just stick it in now. You can't fold now and getting it in now ensures he doesn't have the option of checking back turns with draws then folding blank rivers, nor folding worse hands on scary 4 straight turn/river cards.

Do you understand why you're 3-betting here pre-flop?

Also terminology wise, saying "I defend" implies you flat the open (even though 3 betting is technically a way of defending against opens it's not common terminology), instead say "I 3-bet" and yeah try to actually justify why you're 3 betting this hand. Hint....him opening wide is not justification.

It's a point, if he is going to fold 80% of his range to a 3b, it's probably better to call with KsQs and 3b a polarized range consisting of your usual premiums + air like AXo, KXo or SC's, because when he folds you miss out on a bunch of post-flop value you could have got with your KsQs, and when he 4b you have to fold.

Daviddem is definitely right, this is an easy flat preflop for reasons he outlined, unless you have been 3betting him unmercifully from the blinds and you think he will start peeling with SC's and worse Kx (KJ KT K9s)... but yea flat pre, you dominate his opening range. If you 3bet you turn your hand into a bluff which is ok just pick a better hand to do it with.

Yeah I was hoping OP might have a bash at this himself, but yeah exactly what they said ^^^

So basically you guys think that since I suspect his range to be pretty wide (because he's been stealing a lot), and since KQs is a very strong hand, I actually don't want him to fold because I'd like to see a flop if he's holding a marginal hand I have dominated. Is that correct?

3bing this pre from the sb is probably better fwiw.

First stats lik ATS and fold to 3 bet would be helpful. If you don't have a huge sample don't assume he is picking on you, it will only cloud your judgment.

Yes because you hand does very well against his opening range, but much less so against his continuing range to a 3b. Try to put him on an opening range and then take his 4b range as the top 10 or 15% of that range, and his calling range as the next 10 or 15%. You'll see that your KQs does not do well at all against his 4b range, and you'll have to fold it, and you won't do that good either against his calling range.

Also when you just call his open, you are often getting some more value from the 70 or 80% of his range that he would have folded to a 3b (as he probably cbets a good part of that range when you check to him on the flop), and you can often make his life hell with flop check/raises and floats as hands like KQs often flop equity even when they don't hit directly.
