5NL, Brand New Table, AA, what to do on flop?

So I just recently sat down at this table after my last one broke up, don't really have player stats beyond my own. I have omitted the results, I guess my question is was I really wrong to play this hand like this? (Also note I meant to bet $0.20 but mis-typed)

There's a thread in the digest that will teach you how to analyze calling an all-in. With that having been said, you'll find that this is a pretty easy call. Don't forget to take a note on whatever it is your opponent has here.

Thanks, I did read that thread you're talking about, still trying to work it all out. For references sake I did call, I was just concerned I made the wrong play based on how quickly the villain pushed all in - and then proceeded to flip over 35 off suit.

I would definitely suggest making a bigger raise here pre-flop. With a min-raise like this, you will be getting way too many calls most of the time, making it hard to play aces post flop.

Looks good. You could be ahead and you have good equity against anything (except the sf ofc).

If you want to min-raise UTG with Aces go play limit. Raise to .20 if not more, since it's 5nl and the droolers will call. There was an idiot in the BB last night at a 50nl table, and I'm on the BU with KK. I opened to $4 (8bb) because I knew he would call. When you've got a good hand, always bet the largest amount someone will call with a worse hand. /Rant

FWIW, you have enough equity to call this shove vs his range.

Yeah the min-raise was an accident. The only time I ever min-raise with AA or KK is on a really tight table where hardly anyone calls a raise at all. I was just checking that I made the correct call (which I thought I had with no history on the other player).

What history on the other player would make you hesitate or pause (or not call at all) in this situation? If any?

If we had 2 million hands on him and knew he would only push AI here with a straight flush. :shifty:

But LDFO we can't limit his hand range to just straight flushes. We have to include straights, flushes, sets, overpairs, two pair, and possibly a 5x spazzout. Much of his hand range beats our hand, however run it through Stove and you'll find you have enough equity to call profitably.

Agaian put villain on a complete range of likely hands, don't just pluck out a few hands that beat you and question it. Get pokerstove and use it. You'll find with topest overpair, the nut flush draw and all this equity you can never fold here with all the hands you're crushing/doing well/doing okay against in villains range and nothing that's killing you.

Try to be objective and give the analysis a bash without being results oreintated. What villain shows upwith in one given situation is in no way demonstrative of what you should have done.

Ohh and you're a favourite against the hand he showed up with, so questioning your play due to this is even more rediculous.
