How did you find FTR?

I've always wondered how people manage to stumble across a tiny corner of the internet like FTR. Are we just mentioned more on other big poker websites than I notice, or did we used to get mentions in newspapers/magazines when poker sites were still plentiful in the US?

I actually ended up here thanks to grinderschool, although I'm sure for most people it'll be the other way around. FTR also got a mention in the local paper here a few months back, which is kinda weird since it's a tiny paper that serves a region of like only a couple hundred thousand people in the south of New Zealand.

my friends had been playing home poker for a while, i just started, and being the perfectionist i am i planned on being the best player at the game within a week (in reality it took about 1 day, but i digress)

pokerfanatic83. He used to post a ton but doesn't anymore. I belonged to horrible poker sites before FTR and even browsed FTR for awhile before actually signing up and becoming a member.

Googled cos I saw a freeroll on stars and signed up in hopes of playing said freeroll. It was prolly a few months before I realizied what ftr had to offer.

Same here. I was working at a web design firm back in the day and had lots of spare time to surf.

googled "poker forums" and liked it better than 2+2 so here I am.

back in 2008... having no clue about online poker, i was signing up with FT, saw a referral code box, so i googled FT referral codes, and boom FTR (unfortunately i had no clue about RB), but started looking around and reading some articles, liked the site so joined.

i was getting loads of abuse at the party 6-max tables for being a fish, didn't know what fish meant though and it annoyed me.
eventually i googled something like 'what does fish mean - poker' and FTR was top of the sites listed.

google ftw

like late 04, early 05...just searched poker, poker forums, something like that, and found it. back then it was real hospitable for newbies to the game, as the majority of people five or six or seven years ago were brand new to the game...hope it's still that way now.

ya, pretty sure this was the case. I think I found a link to FTR on an affiliate page that had the hand rankings (I srsly didn't know all the hand rankings when I first started playing for real money, lol..)

some youtube video where the guy mentioned freerolls offered here. to my dismay it was only to members so i gave up and found it again maybe 4 months later when i started playing real money

altavista'd poker forums back in 04.

In 05, my brother-in-law introduced me to online poker. Like most of the things in my life, if I'm going to do something, I want to be the best at it. So I googled poker strategy and stumbled upon the FTR SNG strats. Unfortunately, I'm only moderately good at the game 5 years later.

Sit and Go planet after a google search, which led me here somehow... I can't remember the exact connection. Now I play 0 poker and just pollute the commune daily.

I was a member of BodyBuilding.com and when I searched poker strategy for a fund raising tourney. I liked FTR most out of all the forums and sites because it was almost the same forum style as BB.com. phpBB with close to the same colour scheme.

I am pretty sure it was something along that line anyways, it was a long time ago!

Google obv. Might have been "sng strategy" or something similar.

Back in 06 I Google sng strategy, read a few articles and saw forum, thought wtf is that, and didn't look. If only id looked. Took me a couple more years to realise forums were the best place to learn and then signed up. Wasted 2 yrs winning small stakes sngs, if only id found icm before the rest of th world did too, sigh.
