TPTK or high card vs weak hand/bluff

Lets assume few hypotethical situations that come around often.

1. I preflop raise AK, someone calls. Flop comes something like A72 rainbow. I cbet, villain raises. I call. During turn/river, villain bets for his whole stack.

2. I preflop raise AK, someone calls. Flop is something like 952 or J72 (the point is just that i miss the flop). I cbet, villain raises, i call, and after that villain commits his hole stack. Lets also assume that turn and river card aren't scary.


Both situations have few things in common. First, we both have fairy large stacks. Second, I'm 90% sure my opponent is full of crap, has a weak hand or bluffing me.

So, my question is, given the current info, would you call that bastard all the way down, since you are pretty sure your top pair, or even Ace high is good?

if you know he is full of crap yes....

1. won many hands like but also lost as many to sets or 2 pairs.

if he is tight i def fols, he hit the set for sure.
if its loose and bad player call, he might defend pair smaller them AA or has AQ, AJ , but you never know
2. ussually i do make the cbet but if reraised i fold if i hold nothing.

depends a lot on opp... position, stack., range, play style.

Well, my problem is that im not entirely sure if its profitable to commit a large stack with such marginal holdings like TPTK or high card. For example, in a first case i got beaten once by AT, who caught T on river, or in the second case, i got busted by A3, also caught 3 on river.

sounds pretty fucking stupid to me

if you're that sure, then it's easy. But chances are that your 90% certainty is based on all sorts of foolishness

Hand 2) I rarely call this.

Don't call them down - keep folding and when you have a better hand than ace high you call them down and take their stack :)

Look at it like this, why get your money in when you may be ahead, when you can get it in when you know you are very likely to be ahead? If you call down with ace high whether he has the winning hand or not he'll likely stop being so retarded, even if he is a maniac - even maniacs (unless drunk) pick up on getting called down with Ace high...

So my advice is wait until you have a bigger edge and then exploit it for all it's worth, don't ruin the maniacical tendencies of your villian by calling them down too light :)

hand 1, Not many villains are raising you light on a dry A-high flop. Against most people fold, but you won't be raised here very often. If your read is he's FOS, ie he's a 35/30/10 maniac or something, then calling him down is fine. But usually fold. On a drawy flop, you could jam.

hand 2, Middle card flops are not great to c-bet oop. If you do, plan on 2barreling. But c/f'ing the flop is fine too, even with AK.
