That went through my head, so only way I could get round it is that fat chick/dude in a dress is communicaing with fellow time travellers waiting on the time travel ship whcih has a mobile phone mast stuck on top of it. And I imagine time travellers would get real impatient waiting for people!
Much more likely to be some kind of inter-galactic communication device.
