I say tracking software is no good!
Here's why...
I got Poker Tracker 3 (PT3) and played a ton of hands-- well for me a ton of hands is about 15,000. This took a long time! I'm certain it would be much more valuable if I played 1 million hands.
Here's the problem....
I can conclude almost nothing from from my PT3 stats. It says I'm losing about 1 big blind/100 hands over 15,000 games; however, this tells me little about my win rate other than I'm probably not a big winner or a big loser -- BUT there's a small chance I'm a big winner or a bigger loser!
So fine.... That's what I've learned, but I could have learned that by simply counting my hands and checking my balance/deposit on Full Tilt and doing a little math.
HOWEVER, I have all these statistics about how profitable my game is when in the big blind facing a raise. If 10,000 hands overall doesn't tell me how profitable I am overall -- clearly I can learn nothing about the few hands I played in the big blind facing a raise.
I'm hoping some new software I'm trying can help. It's called LOLCOCKSUCKERPOKER, but I'm not sure how good it is. So far it looks awesome. It'll tell you if you play a single hand right or not and quantify it (irrespective of the outcome); however, I'm not good enough to know if it's correct or not. So I'm posting some questions on this forum to see what others think.
Unfortunately, the holy grail of poker does not provide a proper Heads Up Display -- so switching completely (from PT3 or HM) is out of the question.
