Your position is UTG. Make your move

I figured that I would put myself through a series of mind exercises for the the next week and think about a single position for an entire 24 hours and what I would do with certain hands. For 24 hours I will think of nothing but that position when I'm not playing and when I am I will focus on that position.

So today for the next 24 hours I will be thinking of nothing but being under the gun. Sure it's easy to say that I'm raising with JJ+, AQ+ under the gun but is that my absolute opening range? What's my limp range? 22+? ATs+? Whats my 3BB calling range? What about my 4-6BB call range? What's my 3 bet call range? Do the table stakes adjust my range?

These are the things that I will be pondering for the next 24 hours and focusing on in my play. (That's not to say I'll be ignoring the rest!)

Define UTG 3-bet raise / call / fold ranges for the following villain profiles (assume HU, 3-betting from the Button only for ease):

1.) 77/17 fish
2.) 45/0 Calling Station
3.) 30/25 Aggro-Maniac
4.) 16/13 TAG
5.) 9/7 Rock
6.) 4/2 Nit

Your answers are different for each profile... How different and why??

If you're playing a hand from UTG, it better be worth playing. Never limp.

Your missing some of the most important information to make these decisions. You are wasting your time thinking like this.

So you guys wouldn't limp UTG with small pocket pairs for set value? Or will you raise with them?

You can't limp hands UTG and call raises then expect to make money post flop with them by only playing for set value. Think about what others will see and think, how would you balance this? Are you only limp/calling w/small PP's? There is so many other ways to make money from UTG depending on so much.

Ranges are not absolute. They change with opponent tendencies and opponent stack sizes.

That's what you need to consider.

Are the opponents to the left of you tight or loose.Passive or aggressive. Are they full stacked or short stacked.

Agree with everything JYMS said. Waste of time. Looks like you're looking for some kind of recipe. Recipes and charts are for shortstackers and even the good shorties will abandon such things and tailor their game to the situation.

If you feel you're losing UTG or could be winning more, filter out all your hands in that position and review. Post hands, ask questions, open up pokerstove and start plugging ranges. Preflop UTG is so damn easy anyway, its postflop that is difficult. But if you're not sure whether or not limping ATs uTG is a good idea, then I can imagine you are having all kinds of trouble in this position postflop.

Unless you play 2nl limping utg is bad. You can do it at 2nl though because people stack off so light when you hit a set. Getting slightly of topic but read a discussion at another forum and they were talking about how the better you are post flop the more hands you can limp pf. If durr or ivey ever felt inclined to join a 5nl game with 100bb effective stacks they could pretty much limp any 2 cards then use superior post flop skills to rape. Now it would be a mistake for them to never raise pf but post flop skills would make up for it.
