I'm a poker noob and I need something explained to me. How come it "feels" like flush draws have a much a better chance than open-ended straight draws even though there's only a difference of 1 out?
Is there something I'm misunderstanding? Only counting the draw and nothing else, a flush draw gives you 9 outs and an open-ended straight draw gives you 8 outs, right? Is it just in my head that it feels like flush draws hit more often?

'cause when a flush hits it's like WHABAM THERE ARE THREE CARDS WITH THE SAME LITTLE PICTURES IN MY FACE, whereas when a straight hits it's just like, "Hey look, a seven. Sup."
This is true, and it also means that straight draws are a little more valuable in terms of IMPLIED odds than the number of outs would indicate. You can more often get paid off by your straight (as long as there aren't 4 cards to the straight on the board) than by your flush, because when you open up and bet after a flush card hits, everyone in the back of their mind starts thinking FLUSH!Quote:
