Salamis Gap year - £50 to $20k

Hi all.. First post on these forums. Would like to say its been a pleasure reading these blogs and posts that people have made.

Ok, my story: Around October sometime, me being the hotshot poker player, I applied for a visa on me birthday excited about the millions I would be winning.. I wasnt far wrong. First $50 deposit I got up to $300... Wow, easy money..
Moved up stakes and lost it all very quickly. Next deposit I got it up to $550! WOW, I am good.. The idiot I am couldnt wait 48 hours to cash out (stupid pokerstars) so ended up losing that..

Then, I ended up being down $450 in a major tilt session. One drunken night I come home, deposit $75. The next day I had $1998 at a high point... A mixture of luck and getting aces at 1000nl :D..

anywas, I had to reach $2000, so ended up losing it all bar $650 lmao.. I was soo angry at myself as $2000 is a lot of money for a broke college student. Anyways cut a long story short I found MTT and have now lost ALOT of money playing poker (hoping for that 1 big cash).. im not in any debt, but ive lost ALOT of money.. I admit, i was addicted to the game, as most of you probably are :P but have now learned br management and am determined to win it all back + more :D

My task : So, my task to get a measly £50 -$72 to be precise up to a grand sum of 20k. I have till NEXT september, so a year and a half. Im going to play everyday, 2 hours a night till the end of my exams and 5-6 hours maybe more when I break up. I know I can do it.. I will do it..I will play 6 max 4-6 tabling

If.. or should i say when :P I make a healthy bankroll, I am going to go travelling and see the world and generally partayy, and then depending on how my life is going Next september I might go to university to study business marketing.. Hopefully I pass my grades for a level !

Couple of questions. What programs do I need as I would like to know how to set up those sexy graphs showing many monies and those programs showing the data of other players.. Also, very nooby, what does (for example) 17/16/15 mean.. Is it agression on the flop, turn and river? and vpip? also what does 25-20, 15-10 mean?

Also, how do I convert hands into the post as I would like to make it clearer for all of you when reading hands ive played wrong etc.


Todays Update I have taken my $72 to $91.40 3 tabling 6nl at Pacific poker in 2 hours.. This was with AA getting cracked by 77 and JJ cracked by A10..

programs you need are
0. make sure that your poker client is set up to save your hand histories to disk and give them a decent time period before they are deleted.
1. download pokertracker3 and there's a 2 month free trial before you have to buy ......don't buy
2. after two months download holdem manager and theres a 2 week free trial . by this time you should be able to afford to buy the lite version of holdem manager at 55$
3. pokerstove - free download
4. check out the free videos in the panel on the left of the FTR site , then consider a $10 micro stakes subscription at grinder school.

18/8/2 vpip pfr aggression factor ok.. so the 18 stands for vpip as a percentage? the 8 is a percentage of a preflop raise? and the 2 is a percentge of the agression? Im sorry, im a bit confused..

Ive downloaded pokertracker and pokerstove.. im wondering do you have to enter everything manually in pokerstove? I wont have time if im 4 tabling if so..

Also, whats that program which finds out how many times you raise preflop, bet on flop.. and that program which checks other players plays etc

18/8/2 = vpip/pfr/af

VPIP = % of total hands that you Voluntarily Put $$$ In the Pot
PFR = Pre-Flop Raise = % of total hands you raise before the flop
AF = Aggression Factor, the formula is something like (bets+raises)/(checks+calls)

The program that tracks your and other players' stats is PokerTracker 3 or Holdem Manager - they basically do the same thing so its personal preference. I have PT3, but others prefer HEM. Keith's suggestion to trial both is a good idea.

You can't use Poker Stove at the table - you won't have time. You should use it when you review hands after a session - pull the hand histories out of PT3/HEM, plug them into the Stove and try to work out whether you were making the right plays or not. Its also good for understanding what different VPIP/PFR numbers equate to in terms of actual ranges, and how different hands/ranges play against other hands/ranges.

Little update as I didnt have college tomorow:

My br went down to $33..... dammit i sucked, but now its back to $78!..
Lost aces 2x to someone called Bowler909 (biggest fish going) so that was 4x aces had been cracked today.. I had to get me money back so I took it all back .. he was on $61 on 6nl lol.. Now i have $45 on 6nl.. hes got 23 so ima try and take tht before I go to bed..

UPDATE messy couple of days so havnt had a chance to play much poker.. bad hangovers and girls aplenty.. HAvnt done any revision for my exams yet so needa start it soon!!

poker:.. i have to say, 6 max has sooo much variance. Its unbelievable!! Got up to $100 today (was going to quit but I got greedy), but now am at $85 as my aces got cracked AGAIN with a 200BB stack..

He had Kings, and another player caught a flush with 10-9.. Alot of preflop raising and I should have shoved all in but he woulda called anyways.. and I woulda lost. But overall, 5nl is quite damn easy apart from the variance..

O yea, also, im not using any programs yet as I dont know how to set them up. But im just gonna keep doing what im doing until I would benefit alot from it

wow, got up to $168.. but im a ******* **** and now am down to $59 so am playing 6nl with 50bb.. Im just a stupid mongrel twating prick.. cant even stick to ****ing bankroll management.. **** ****.. never ****ing learn.. **** sake.. just got sucked out with 66 - 99.. im just an idiot.. i feel to ****ing **** something up..[/u]

and icant get that fricking graph piece of shite to work.. damnit i gotta control my temper... I was absolutely killing 6nl but thought Im gonna move up to 10nl as its easy.. omg im so pissed off..

UPDATE:

ended up losing that £50 when I was drunk lol..

Deposited another £60 in titan poker. Have got it up to $300 so far and have withdrawn out the £60 for that deposit.. came 2nd in a 90 man $10 tourney so won $180. Moving on up, gna play 10nl till i get to 400 then play some 20nl!
