grinding questions

ok ive been on a couple week grind now, starting with a 22$ stake, i played 10-15 tbls of 2nl intil i was about 50$...(awful brm i know.)....i then took 5 tbls of 5nl, and the other 12 tbls of 2nl. my grind has been working fairly well, its been approx 3 weeks and ive turned 22$ into just over 150$.

now my question is this....at 5nl, (10-15 tblin) i was making approx 1.5-3 BI/hr so approx 7-15$ an hour.

but, im also a member on another forum and when i mentioned the current grind im doing, they posted saying i should stop doing this?


im just wondering ur oppinions on this?

he said i should focus on less tables and to play higher limit? but how will i move up quicker playing less tabls?

isnt his idea extremely -ev?

Well I think both ideas are extremely -ev. Ive always tried to move up in limits, running really hot, playing 2 tables of .10/.25 with a BR of 75$, and eventually going busto in a few days.
I would honestly play 2 tables of .02/.05 until your bankroll reaches at least 150$ which it has, and then move to either 4 tables of .02/.05 when you get to that 150$ mark.
I'd keep grinding till at least 200$ to 250$ and move to 2 tables of .05/.10 until i hit about 350$ to 400$ and then move to .10/.25, and thats a REALLLLY lenient form of bankroll managment. Super tight BR managers would even think that strat is too lose.
Trust me, you WILL hit a down swing and it WILL chop your bankroll down to close to nothing.

play 2 tables and watch EVERY SINGLE HAND
have extensive reads on villains
then not only is your winrate going to be higher, you will also learn to play better

It depends on your ability level. I assume since you are asking you are fairly new to the game or at a novice level?

If so, you should be focusing on getting better. Play less, read/study more. I have been playing going on two years and really working on my game and still feel I suck. I currently use my poker time to study about 75% of the time, play roughly 15% of the time, and go over my HHs the rest.

But back to your question. As a beginner you should never play more than 4 tables until you are soundly beating 2NL for like 20BB/100+ and 5NL for 16BB/100+ And this is over like 250k hands.. and that's where the problem lies. BR grows much faster than skill. So I would suggest is to use a very nitty approach,only moving up at 50 buy-ins or more. This is really hard because we live in a very results oriented world where we want da monies now! But don't succumb to this. Learn the game properly and the dough will eventually flow in.. when your game is ready.

Also, read some of the old operations, Robb's for example, to see how hard it can be to move beat the next levels even at micros if you move up before your skill level has caught up to your BR.

post some graphs of your positional stats and your winnings. i'm curious to how well you're doing because that table setup is not the best idea until you've nailed the fundamentals
