how do i play this?

only 10 hands on villain.

190 left i'm in 18th place.

pushing seems like over kill. same with reraising cuz i can't re raise then change my mind and fold. i'm getting the right odds to call and flop a set... but that seems kinda weak to me.

Flatting pre seems best and and with no cbet/double barrel reads, i like your lead on the flop . What is your plan if a diamond or an A or K hits the turn?

if and A or K or Q or diamond comes.... i'd probably cuss, feel like a wuss and check fold.

Meh I'd just fold pre, or 3-bet and call a shove if he's crazy. I'd call from any other position but being in the SB just sucks.

really? in a $5 tourney?

is it really that much harder to win on the flop, OOP, at higher buy ins?

there's just a good chance villain has two big cards and completely missed the flop but would cbet anyway. we do have the gut shot... and runner straight draw if he actually does have us crushed.

plus we can't go busto since we have him covered. plus, we might get him to make an iffy call with AQ thinking we have just a draw.

like the call in the sb for sure, and the flop looks like a flop to bet straight out at if not cause you think he's got 2 overs, then just for info. id bet it out and see what he does.

mcat's point about playing out of the small blind is a good one and can't be emphasized enough. I really don't like playing any hand out of the SB to a raise except AA/KK.

Since the raise is in late-ish position, we can't exactly put him on a monster, so folding seems weak. On the other hand, that makes him less likely to pay us off if he spike a set.

If it was the button I'd three-bet/go-and-go.

ok lemme make sure i grasp this and put it in my own words.

since its unlikely he has a strong hand (raise from LP) we don't win much when we hit a set. plus, its likely over cards will flop and we won't set. BUT say he has KT or QJ or JT..... or even AT and we do flop a set. if the flop is 8TK (he has AT) we're not getting paid. even if its 8T3... unless he's horrid we're not getting paid cuz its likely scare cards come on later streets that will fold him.

so basically, we are donating. cuz its just so unlikely the perfect cards flop for me to stack him. which makes calling a donation.

This is a rare case where drmc and mcat have different opinions on how to play a hand so I'm interested in hearing more.

I agree with mcat's reasoning totally yet folding 88 for 5% of our stack here seems too weak.

We are giving the BB good odds to call, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing.

if we have 40k here.... we just shove. standard i guess?

now that i think about.... unless he's horrid.... rerasing and calling a shove can't be good. even if he's a standard unprofitable player (but not horrid), we just have to pray we are flipping vs AJ+ or KQ. plus what the hell is an 80k stack gonna push with.... KQ really? that would be horrid i think.... AJ, 55, really???? god thats awful. so if he's almost halfway decent... trying to play good... calling a shove can't be +EV.
