15 Interesting hands from today's session (25nl 6-max on AP)

I ran 27/21 this session. Here are some of the more interesting decisions or biggest pots I played. Some are wins, some losses, and some just LOL standard but I decided to include them anyways, partly so that some noobs could see smart players say "LOL standard." :)

1. This one was fun. It was villain's 2nd shove in a row (maybe 3rd since he sat down a few hands ago? I can't remember for sure). I was a little worried about UTG, but I'm pretty sure I have MP crushed and didn't want to pass up a huge edge.

11. Villain has like a 6 PFR. I just fold-and-showed (a great AP feature, btw) AQo on the previous orbit to his early position open. It's cool. I'm not really looking for or expecting in-depth advice or anything, I just thought it might be interesting to have a discussion (if anyone was interested) over some mostly non-standard spots.

reading through / analysing 15 hands takes time.
do you really expect the regs to spend that much time looking at one thread?

this many hands in one thread leaves no room for discussion, as any responses you get (if any) are going to be limited.

It's like, i can analyze 15 of your hands or 15 of mine I am no way going to do both, one or two sure but I rarely analyze this many of my own hands.

1. I probably call like 77+/AQ+ in the same situation.

2. Ugh, I don't hate either folding or rasing all-in here, depends on your reads. The min raise look like he has a pretty nut hand here that we are behind to a big % of the time. If you're sure he'd do this with his draws, I guess its fine to shove.

11. i would not 3ball preflop oop w/K8s vs someone so tight. As played I cbet obv but around 4.75.

Thank you very much for going over these hands for me, I really appreciate it. I agree that hand 4 was a pretty clear fold.

When I was going back over hand 5, I definitely would've liked a flop raise, too, and I couldn't remember why I didn't, except maybe that I was planning to raise a turn blank or something. Unfortunately there are a lot of bad turn cards, so I definitely agree that a flop raise is best.

Hand 9 a minraise puts him all-in. I very rarely minraise, can't remember the last time I did. Hand 11 I'm in position, not out of position, but I'm still not sure that makes this a good light 3-bet.

Thanks again, your comments were pretty spot on. I know there were a few spots where I made some pretty speculative calls... I was experimenting a bit with floating flops with a plan to be aggressive on later streets, and I think it went pretty well for the most part. Hands like hand 13 where I have a hand with both showdown value and outs, I felt that a call could work but know that a raise is standard.

1: Pretty hard to have someone crashed on all-in EV with 88 tbh. I would fold this really.

2: I think you’re beat a lot here on the turn. But shove I guess because the board is so wet. Against some you’re always behind here, against some you beat a lot of combo draws. Marginal spot anyway.

3: Check behind the flop because no better hands are folding and you can’t really call a c/r imo.
As played, turn is good.

4: I like calling preflop. What was your plan to a 4bet?
Your line makes sense, but I think you’re just too often screwed to call 3 streets. I’m really considering folding flop.

5: Really raise flop. And probably 4bet preflop because his 3bet is small so he’s pricing himself in with a lot of hands.

6: Your turn line makes no sense. C/shove is a lot more credible. I don’t like calling that flop raise OOP much.

In general I see you’re cbetting small and calling flop raises light. That might be profitable, but it get’s you into tough and marginal situations where you might be losing money.

7: If you’re leasing flop, make it bigger. The bet probably only folds worse hands, so it’s not that great. After villains turn sizing you have very little FE because of the remaining stacks. Just fold.

8: More on the flop.

9: Fine.

10: I’d just check preflop. Raising this OOP against a buch of limpers ends up with you being OOP in a 3way+ pot and very little equity too often. Bet flop bigger because Kx, 76s, and FD’s are gonna call/raise anyway.

11: Fold preflop. Light 3betting is against wide opening ranges, don’t get fancy against the tighties.
As played flop is good.

12: Tough situation. I like calling flop. Turn I’d c/raise smaller, although I don’t think it matters much.

13: Fine.

14: Postflop is fine, but 3betting preflop makes sense, although calling is never bad.
Looking at these 15 hands only, your 3bet strategy might need some work.

15: I like cbetting a little bigger, get max value from underpairs, FD’s and Ax. (I’d just shove the turn, but w.e.)

1. If he's doing this with any pair and any ace (leaving out QQ+ and AK because I doubt he would just ship those), I'm 63% preflop. I've seen people show up in similar situations with total garbage (I just had 66 busted by 83s and QQ by 62s yesterday against similar plays), so I don't think I can fold 88 here, except for UTG being in there. I think it's pretty close. It's definitely a little scary calling off 80BB when you just might be smoked.

4. I really wish I had called preflop. For some reason I didn't want to play QQ 3-way, but looking at it now I don't think it's as bad as it seems, and it allows for some interesting postflop action having QQ where no one expects to see it.

5. I feel like against someone who 3-bets so much, I'm going to end up calling a lot, so calling here with KK can add some deception and protect my other hands. I totally agree, though, that I should be raising the flop since my hand is well concealed (it will probably look like a flush draw and I can probably stack like Jx or even TT). I didn't think the hand through enough at the time it happened and only had a vague notion that I wanted to raise the turn instead since I felt like he would continue bluffing a lot of turns.

6. He only has like $14.50 or so left on the turn, so I didn't figure to have any fold equity on a C/S. I guess I'm repping AK, KK+, or maybe ATs? But then again would I lead those on the turn? I guess I would have to if I want to be able to do this with AQ. This was definitely one of the spewier hands here.

7. I thought he'd play similarly with broadway diamonds, which I figured to be in good shape against on the turn. And maybe he'll fold AK. But I agree that this is another one of the more spewy hands in this collection.

13. I'm glad you agree that this hand is okay. I feel like I'm ahead on the flop a lot. On the turn he might have a hand like KQ, KJ, QT, or JT that he won't fold, but he's giving me decent odds (22% needing 13-16%) to hit an A or J. Considering the implied odds in this example ($1.50 on the turn to win $11.77 is under 13%, and I'm stacking him when I hit the J), along with the fact that he might play a hand like J8ss or 87ss the same way (Does he give up the river when he misses? 14. I do need to improve my 3-betting strategy, especially out of position. My current strategy often has me calling with hands like KQ, AJ, 99-JJ, feeling like they play better in a non-3-bet pot against a wide raiser's entire range. Instead, against someone who folds to 3-bets, I go for a more polarized range like QQ+, AK (sometimes AQ and JJ, especially OOP) and then suited aces, sometimes suited kings or like QJs, JTs if the PFR opens wide enough. Against someone who doesn't fold to 3-bets, I totally agree that I should be 3-betting like the top 1/3 of their range and calling with the middle 1/3 or with hands that play well postflop in position.

15. I didn't notice until you mentioned it that my bets were pretty small in this sample of hands. I usually tend to bet bigger, between 2/3 and full pot. The main exceptions are on dry boards and in 3-bet pots. I was initially thinking that this board was pretty dry with the exception of the spade draw (and also that I like betting a similar amount with like 33-TT), but there are just so many worse hands calling me here that I agree with a bigger bet, the way I might bet a flush draw. I really need to think about balancing my range better on a board like this. Maybe wheel flush draws, 55-99, and AQ-AJ are good candidates for betting like 1/2-2/3 pot, while I could bet AK, other flush draws, and wheel draws bigger (2/3-full pot). Then I could check back like KK-JJ and AT or worse. Monsters (2x or better) and air would probably be best off randomly splitting them between one of the 3 options. I'm guessing this is still pretty horribly unbalanced, though... this is definitely an area of my game I need to think about a bit more, especially as I start to move up in stakes.

4 - bet bigger on flop, 3bet or fold his raise
5 - 4bet pre most times, def raise that flop hard
6 - B/F bigger on flop
7 - 3bet pre. either C/R that flop as a bluff or C/F, dont donkbet and then call a raise
8 - bet more on flop
9 - seems fine
10 - 4 way to the flop, C/F that board if it was 2 of spades
11 - Don't show cards n give free info. Just fold pre.
12 - B/F more on the flop. Paired board, flush draw, and you wanna call a raise OOP with OESD?
13 - stats over how many hands? I would stop relying so much on stats. I like raising flop.
14 - 3bet pre or C/R flop are better options than your line
15 - If you think his bad enough, just raise turn and get it in.
