Hi Everyone,

To me 3,500 posts is a milestone and I dont know how long itll take to reach 4,000. Right now I think its very fitting that its TODAY I reach 3,500. Many things are going very well in poker and in life so I think Ill pay it forward and answer any questions anyone has regards poker or life.

A brief list of the Good Times Factors;

1 - BR is up around its highest point in a long time, highest ever was about $9,600. I had about $7,500 when I withdrew a shitload before xmas 2007 and spent on paying off car loans, new pc etc etc. Right now Ive about $7,400.

2 - Ive released my first instructor video with GrinderSchool which Im very excited about. This has just been released today and hoping it gets a good reception, I enjoy making videos to take a break from the norm.

3 - I am almost out of my training contract of 3.5 years with my job at the end of March. During the recession I am very very lucky to be in a position I am in. I will officially be a Qualified Chartered Accountant then, I will get a very nice and grateful bump up in salary. I am very lucky to have such stability.

4 - My shots at 200nl so far have been solid. I find 100nl an easy enough stress free game I can beat comfortably.

5 - And I am on track for my best month so far since I redeposited (come to think of it) pretty much exactly a year ago starting at 25nl.

So Im feeling good and would like to answer any questions any beginners etc have on poker or whatever. You can post whatever you want in here and Ill try answer each post.

Oh (sorry for ranting now), big shout out to all FTR members to you have helped me and my game!!! I wont mention names in case I leave some out :D

I play 100NL/200NL 6max on stars as well. Wondering if you sometime wanna have study sessions or sweat each other or anything along those lines, w/e that could help us :D

My question is, what are the main key differences you see amongst the regs from 100NL 6m to 200NL 6m and what are you doing different from 100NL to adjust to these differences?

Your question is a tough one but its also a general comment.

Biggest differences between 100nl and 200nl are;

- BvB play is a way more loose aggro than 100nl. You will be regularly 3bet by regulars. Tho adjustments are just to tighten up your range opening SB rather than go for 4 betting or opening for a larger amount OOP.

- Calling 3bets lighter than you would at 100nl. You will see regs call 3bet very light with J9s, T9s etc, do not think they obv know more than you so you call 3bets too. Even CO vs SB, BTN vs Blinds this is bad. Make sure if you do you have reads.

- Reads, this brings me to a major point in my game. Reads are NOT stats, since im taking shots at 200nl I do not have a large enough sample size on anybody. 1000 hands is not enough at all for 3bet% etc and other useful but specific stats. So dont feel bad folding etc just bcoz he 3bet% 10%, tbh he prob only ever 3bet 5 times in total.

- Dont get into massive wars with regs, they still think your bluffing anyway.

I dunno if that answered your question though lol but its more of my adjustments to the stakes. 200nl players are much more spewy than 100nl players since they beleive ppl are making moves left right and centre, if you play a game like 20/18 preflop they will assume you can bluff loads postflop and will pay you.

Ive only played cash drunk in Merrion with €50 way back, double up quick then bustoed with trip Ks and got outkicked.

I have tho played a good few tourneys, in a proper casin im 2 for 4 ITM final tables. In pub games im 3 for 5 and all final tables.

Ive not got the money to play the min €1/€2 games here since Ive not much disposable income I can blow at live games plus its not that convenient to go to a casino tho supposably a good one opened up not far from me. I dont have any friends that would play live cash games.

What stake did you start building a bankroll at?

I know you took a while to break through at 200nl. What if anything do you think caused you to make it?

I played SNGs with a deposit of $100 playing $5 buyin sngs, I worked it up to $1000 (I played $16 turbos, taking shots at $27 turbos) before switching to 25nl full ring. Grinded full ring fairly successful to the point I think I was just under $10k roll.

Well Im not quite settled in yet :wink:

Man its been crazy and hard to pin point what I think has caused this. Maybe a few things were;

1 - Im imo a better player than I was a month ago, better a month ago than I was 2 months ago etc. There was so much I didnt know and still dont know.

2 - Positive variance :wink:

3 - Posting more hands

4 - Checking hands after sessions.

5 - Maybe starting sessions with some specific concept in mind

6 - Not getting into reg battles with minimal reads

7 - No retarded bluffs

Imo Ive improved a good amount, to think I was taking shots way back in about mid 2007 not knowing anywhere near what I know now is crazy. But i think the amount of information available has def made small stakes harder.

lol have you seen some of my HH threads over last few months :oops:

Besides the ones you mentioned I dont run too many bluffs, 3 barrels in general are very tough to find good spots for. By that I mean Im not quite sure of exactly the best spots to do them in but I will as I get better.

A spot I do like doing it in is CRing turns OOP, say I pfr, cb flop, cr turn. Ill do this vs tags whos range consists of almost no nut hands, lets say on a fairly drawy lowish flop, on a blank turn ill be pretty confident I can check raise and take it down or if called shove a bunch of river. Of course you could say 'hey you rep nothing either!!!'', well thats very true. I would prob barrel most solid hands on blank turn unless i know opp loves to bet pot if checked to but id prob still bet even then since obv a fish. Thing is that he is a small stakes nit/tag who isnt a good hand reader and will be more afraid of the 'bet'' and ''fear of monsters'' than use hand ranges.

Also id 3bet light or 4bet bluff a wee bit plus floating with some equity IP but the above is one that comes to mind.

Ah yes, seems so so so so so so so so so long ago now. I literally had the sng forum as my bookmark, wasnt allowed outside the forum till I had like 1500 posts. Taipan lures you in with his accent then traps you :wink:

Btw it was so way back that Bjsaust wasnt actually around then, before his time.

that's soooo funny as I actually had that page bookmarked as well and didn't even know other forums existed for a long time. In fact, I am not sure Tai, to this day, knows that there are other forums out there.

1) your poker income is likely to be trivial relative to your work income. You probably work 40+ hrs a week? How do you perceive poker? as an income source? if so, why work two jobs? as a hobby? wow, lots of time in front of a computer..

2) poker goals now?

3) 4-bet much?

Yes its fairly trivial, I get about 20k hands in on a good month. I work 37.5 hours a week but even though Im in an audit practice and the norm is to work a shit load Ive actually luckboxed into a company with a much more relaxed culture. Most big practices expect 12 hour days. I dont feel like a person stuck in front of a pc, my work isnt solely on a pc.

back to the income side again its trivial since I dont plan on withdrawing for a good while. I doubt Ill ever go ''pro'' unless something major happens but I still love my hobby. Costs nothing to play it.

Right now my goals are more short term, keep grinding and winning at 200nl. Its taken me a long time to get here so Ive not made plans beyond it yet. 400nl seems a long long way off but Im def improving with every session. I guess next milestone is to just hit the $10,000 mark.

Do I feel I can play at €1,000nl? Sure, I will keep moving up. Ive no pressure on my roll to pay bills, I only withdraw to spoil myself really.

Yea I do, I 4bet bluff a fair amount vs habitual 3 betters. Its great to feel your actually playing the game than grinding the game.

well theres a few spots

if towns a bit dead or its a week night during your stay you prob have to go to Flannerys on harcourt st/camden st, go straight up grafton st towards stephens green and continue forward for about 10 minutes walk. always busy this places, most ppl are country irish ppl. v good spot plus after that theres a club called coppers across the road wish is always packed. bit of a kip but def the most popular club. week nights the nurses and gardas and anyone who does shift work goes here. if you cant pull in this place gtfo of ireland lol.

temple bar area is solid spot and you cant go too wrong. theres one spot i can think of called messer magees next to o connel bridge south side next to Q Bar (tall building with heiniken written on the side)
