If the bb is 20 and the sm is 10, why when I click the bet pot button is the amount bet 70? I'm betting 40 more, 2x bb, into a 30 pot. I understand the amount but I don't understand why it is what it is 70. Can anyone explain this to me?

your "call" of the bb is 20 and makes the pot 50, so then you raise 50
50+20 = 70
a ps bet(raise) in PLHE means your raise is potsized after calling yourself. In your example:
pot is 30, if you call, the pot would be 50, so you RAISE 50, to make a total bet of 70. I dont know if i was clear, hope it helps...
this is why I would never want to deal PLO live.
Simple. Thank you. I've wondered about this for sometime now.
It's because the first preflop bet is actually a raise - the big blind is the bet. The mechanic is the same for all raises.
A raise has a call portion and a raise portion. If you want to make a pot sized raise the mark of if it is a pot sized raise is the odds you lay for your opponent (2 to 1). The simple way to understand is to say that your raise has a call portion and a bet portion. The call portion matches the bet - then you calculate what total pot that would make - and make your bet portion the same amount.
Pot is 20 - current be is 15. You decide you want to make a pot sized raise. Call portion is 15 making a pot of 50. 50 is a pot sized bet so you raise the current 15 bet 50 up to 65 - you raise to 65. Your opponent has to call 50 (already has 15 in the pot) to win the total pot of 15+20+65 = 100 - given him 2 to 1 odds.
Shortcuts.
Take the bet size multiply by 3 and add the (pre-bet) pot
Take the bet size multiply by 2 and add the (post-bet) pot
15*3+20 = 65 | You raise to 65
If you can deal PLO live you could make a fortune playing blackjackQuote:
