Play solid tag poker if you're trying to grind. Experiment if you're trying to learn.

You shouldn't have shown the hand. Now players are gonna think calling a 3bet with J7o is a solid play because slevin won with it.

I like the EP/MP raise PF, 3Bet call, flop raise size....everything looks standard to me. I wouldnt listen to stacks, what does he know :lol:

He could have butchered every hand in his session of opening up and I still don't think it would be bad. If he's thinking about his game, taking a different approach to see how your decision making is altered could be very beneficial. It's all just fishing for those ah-ha! moments though.

Okay...he raised J7o to try to steal (I hope) got repopped and managed to land a fluke two pair. 9 times out of 10 he's going to get the worst of that hand because he's going to land 2nd pair with a crappy kicker and still probably push.

I think what spoon is saying is that he should feel lucky about that hand, not good about his spectacular play and not do it in the future.

Edit: Actually, nevermind. You're skewing the point almost intentionally.

Slevin's main problem at the moment is bankroll management and sticking to a solid, basic game to beat 2nl. What you have suggested will only hinder his process of growth right now.

I 100% agree with spoon here.

Yes, experimenting is good to learn advanced concepts. But if you don't have the basics down you'll screw yourself eventually.

Let's say a 15 year old kid wants to be a racedriver one day. He better learn using clutch, gearshift (you americans all drive automatics but you get the point) and steering wheel properly before thinking about outmaneuvering the leader in the final corner of the indy500 using the slipstream to his advantage.

so long as the kid doesn't kill himself or otherwise ruin his chances of being a racecar driver one day, I say that him even attempting a slipstream slide into first place is a valuable experience in the overall scheme of things!

I understand your points of building a solid foundation and you're not wrong. That's not to say that someone taking a day off from grinding and experimenting will hurt him.

To all those guys that just started playing nit because they know that being a nit is fundamentally a stronger base than being loose, they'll still one day need to learn how to loosen up a bit. Say slevin takes only one lesson away from his donkey loose-ity and that's that a large portion of his opponents play face up in 3 bet pots. He hasn't just read it in a forum, he's now experienced it and understands exactly what all those words were hinting at!

now when he's a nit he's confident in his option of every once in a while 3 betting some suited junk on the button because he trusts his cbetting the flop will make the move profitable. Then let the cogs start turning!

Wow!! Great to see Chelle in the BC.

I would just say that for a 25nl player to go down and blow a few BI's at 2nl or 5nl on an experiment is one thing. For a player only rolled for 2nl, an experiment at his playing stakes isn't wise.

Assuming that you're playing against a bunch of looser, more passive players, you'll develop a small natural edge by being tighter and more aggressive.

If everyone is walking into the ring knowing to play tight, you need to actually learn how to loosen up to exploit their mistakes.

TAgg is right because of how other opponents tend to be wrong.

Second, if you're ignoring table selection then you're arguments are closer to correct. With table selection we make sure that when we walk into the ring we don't have the same game plan as everyone else.

This idea you have that everyone is a tight nit at low stakes is far from correct.
