Thoughts on All BR in Play (Please read mods b4 auto del)

The other thead was started with a really good question by the OP which made me think - wow never thought of that.

I was thinking about it all night and wanted to post my thoughts but the thread was locked so please hear me out and dont turn this into a flame fest like that ended up.

I dont know if the op was talking about cash games but in sng's id say it as this:

Bankroll $100 - allowing you to play the $5 sngs

You enter SNG number 1 - your bankroll then goes down to $95

Do this for the first 10 sngs and your roll will be $50 meaning 5% only allows you to play $2.50 games and so on.

Surely you cant count money in play in a sng as part of your bankroll because unless you cash you aint getting it back?

This obviously only applies to sng's and Mtt's and not cash.

Thoughts guys?

sure, if you wanna 20 table in this fashion with decreasing buyins as your remaining roll dictates, it's alright.

For cash it would basically be the same thing. Say the BR guidelines you've set for yourself dictate you play with 20+ BIs. So you 24 table with 24BIs. You lose a table every time you lose a BI. If during a session you drop to 19BIs, you quit all your tables, drop a level and start 24 tables with now 38 BIs for the level below.

Rinse & repeat.

I don't recommend this because it's not cool to have to shut down a juicy table so have at least enough padding for the nightly swing, but in terms of protecting your roll from busto, this basically accomplishes the same thing as playing 4 tables with 24BI.

If you have a habit of going busto on like 10 tables in the span of 2 minutes then maybe this doesn't work, but I'm not even that bad of a spewmonkey.

Its not something id ever do.

I load up my 2 or 4 games play them out then review the situation after that. I was just trying to get my head around the math and logic of the other OPs thoughts.

If had my whole BR on the line in 20 sngs i think its safe to say i wouldnt play my best poker.

That is definitely foolish given how much of a crapshoot SnGs are. Cash you have the luxury of being more patient due to the static blinds, so the odds of going busto on all 20 tables at once is waaaay worse than going busto on all or most of your SnG tables.

Yeah definitely don't play with your whole roll invested in Sit and Go's. With cash games it is an entirely different concept.

One thing being overlooked is how 20 buyins for SNGs is usually fairly underrolled. Due to the higher variance in SNGs, it is generally far better to have more buyins as padding. I'm not sure but I think the generally accepted is 30-50 buyins (correct me if I'm wrong)? So you wouldn't be able to put your entire roll down playing SNGs at one time.

Earlier this year, when trying to build my BR up at the micros, I tilted off 75% of it with stooopid bad BR management, then said fuck it and invested my remaining $100 into a couple MTTs and a few SnGs :D

Stars really wanted to keep me around cause they gave me a FT in the MTT. I was seriously ready to quit. That was the last time I tilted off my BR that bad :blush:

agree with you here stacks - im a bankroll nit, got 60 buyins on 1 site & 90 buy ins on another, have played higher levels but struggled / ran bad / so dropped back down.

For SNGs I (and most people), play in sets. So however many we play at once, we fire them all up as quickly as we can one after the other, then finish them all before starting another set.

For BRM purposes, I work off my roll at the start of the set for the whole set, not on a game by game basis. So for instance if I want 40 buyins to move up, and I have 41 buyins, if I'm 6-tabling I'll buyin all 6 at the new level. By the same token if I decide to move down at 50 buyins for the lower level, and I have 51 buyins for it, again I'll buyin all 6 at the higher level.

Just thought I'd add this to the mix as it seems fairly relevent: -

"If you play a little from column A (limit) and a little from columb B (Tournies or NL) a good rule of thumb for your bankroll size is never risk more than 5-10% of it on any given day.
