I'm in the camp that I'd rather buy something really nice every once in a while that lasts me compared to buying cheap crap all the time.
Generally it's a once a month thing, like over the last 6 months I've bought/paid for:
1. 42 lcd
2. dell comp/comp chair/comp desk
3. 2 samsung 20" monitors
4. trip to vegas
5. iPod
6. watch
I never grew up with a lot of money and it always seemed like whenever I got something it was a small piece of crap, now my parents/grandparents were able to give my sister and I frequent gifts because of the price of this crap, but I always wanted nicer things. So, when I was finally able to make money I would just save and spend on nicer things. Funny thing is my sister is the opposite, she still is in the habit of buying cheap crap. Weird how that worked out.
I now have plenty of dough to go blow on nice things whenever I feel like it but I guess I'm just conditioned to not over-spend or to not self-indulge too much.
I got into that phase at one point too. Now I'm finally out of it and saving my money like an old man for god knows what. I fantasize about paying my mortgage off early and gay shit like that.

Same here... Buying cheap crap at 2/3 the cost of good stuff, typically means a lot less satisfaction with the product and (as is often the case) the fucking thing breaks a lot faster.. so you really pay the same amount per time used...Quote:

I don't know if your just chatting to see how other people ball... or if you're looking for advice, but I'm kind of a nosy prick, so I'll offer an idea anyway. If you plan on playing poker for even 1 or 2 years, I'd write down some financial goals you hope to achieve (e.g. down payment for a house, maxed out roth ira every year, etc.) while you are playing. Having the a # of hands or ptbb/100 goal is great, but if you want to help curb your crazy spending (or at least make sure you don't have a bunch of shit and little else to show for your poker playing when/if you decide to do something else) I'd set up some longer term goals of that kind.

I spent a few hundred on a TV yesterday after years of playing PS2 and other shit on a TV that was handed down from my grandparents to my parents to me. Half of the buttons and shit don't work on it. Like the number 7 doesn't work, so if you want to go to channel 17 you have to go to channel 16 then hit the channel up button, shit like that. I'm pretty sure it's 20+ years old.
But anyway I got this 26" LCD HDTV bullshit. I got home and the display was fucked up, so had to go back to Best Buy and wait around for an hour while they verified that it was fucked up before they could give me a replacement. Dumb bitch at the counter is like "when did you buy this" and I'm like "earlier today" and she got confused. I told her to look at the fucking receipt.
im quite sure you make an ass-ton of FPP's every day. you should have saved up ~75k FPPs, spent them on $1200 worth of onecall.com GC's and got a 42" LCD instead. Plus you could grind on it if you wanted. Thank me later.Quote:
