10k checkup

I play poker almost every day, just not so much online. I've been struggling with my online results for a couple of years now. Recently, I decided to try to get serious about playing cash games online, so I started with the ~ $80 I had in PS and I'm planning going 10k hands per level and moving up as the roll allows. I started with .02/.05 and this post is the results. I'm hoping for any input into what I'm doing.

2 really bad spots, both well over 1k hands.
I got second-bested a lot in the last 3k hands, and not a lot of my hands got paid off. The way I see it, it kind of proves how little 10k hands really is.

I started off 4-tabling, but I did most of it with 6 tables. 8 proved to be a bit too much.

Advice: Limp less/Raise more. Maybe start by not calling raises with Axs quite so often.

Getting a little tighter wouldn't hurt, I know. I started a bit tighter than this, but I saw a guy who was running 51/3 profitably. It's what a friend of mine called loose/rock. People pay off so much in low limit cash games, you just get involved with tons of hands and if you flop 2p or better you go to town post flop. It works well in card rooms, but I don't really play that style online because I don't have enough info about my opponent's personalities. I did adjust a bit in the middle to loosen up, but I decided it wasn't worth the headaches on 6 tables and it couldn't make up for the BB/hr loss at 2 tables. On top of all that it wont work at higher limits, so why bother? Tight is right, what the hell.

I've thought about the raising more part of it... running 22/10 I raise more than most of the people at that limit. I raise any playable hand when folded to me in LP, I reraise with AQ some of the time.

I think the only spot where I could raise more would be times when there is a limper or two. I usually tighten up a lot when someone gets involved ahead of me. I suppose with positional advantage, I should get involved more there. With what hands tho? I could play AJ or AT there, because most MP limpers have weaker aces or pairs, but can I raise those hands profitably?

Read Spoon's post "raising after limpers", it talks about the profitability of various hands vs a limping range, isolating fish who open-limp, the prevalence of limp-folding etc. I think one of my biggest weaknesses was a fear of raising over the top of limpers. Now I have other big leaks to deal with instead...

I just read spoons post. I started doing a lot of this stuff right after your first reply, it's good to read someone else's perspective on it to really cement it in my head. Until I started getting a decent sample-set together, I always thought blind-stealing in cash games was fairly over-rated... now I know it's where the money's at. Basically, the only difference between my 10k at .02/.05 and my first 1600 at .05/.1 is that I don't respect limpers anymore. I'm running super-good, and I'm sure my winrate will drop a bit, but I'm over 22bb/100 vs 12bb/100 so far. I went from 22/10 to 18/11.

I don't believe I used to fold here...

Preflop agro is so fucking cool.

I played NL2 and NL10 until recently last week - just moved up to NL25. Definitely raise more/limp less.

You said you were raising more than a lot of the fish at these stakes. And it's true. But you can get called a lot by 45/5's and 30/8's when you have A9s on the button. They commit extra chips ('cuz they can't fold) when you have position and decent holdings. Don't get into a limping contest at micro-stakes. Raise it up with premium holdings and with position, and make them pay for their limp/call looseness preflop.

I run 15/13 FR and 19/17 6max at NL10. I've tried limping, and hate it. You get into weird and unprofitable situations all too often.

You also seem to not use position very well. I try to keep my button VP$P at least twice as much as my UTG VP$P.

BTW, early results look good. It sounds like one of the main difficulties might be transiting from live games to online ones, but early results seem promising - like you'll get it soon. Good luck!!

It depends on the game texture. Certainly in most online 100 and 200 games playing that many hands from EP is difficult.

Honestly I think the UTG limping stuff is just small sample set messing with us. When I did this 10k, I was limping small PPs and maybe stuff like AQo or AJs.

Anyway, this is kind of old now, I just finished my third 10k checkup post (in FR forum). I don't ever limp in EP anymore.
