He actually committed suicide because of extreme depression three months after the photo was taken. Won the Pulitzer prize. Guy named Kevin Carter.Quote:

Without knowing anything other than he took this picture, I disagree.Quote:

I agree with spoon to disagree with pgil.Quote:

Here is my thinking on this. He took the picture before helping the kid out (if the kid was still alive to be helped). That by itself should be enough. But, if it's not, any way you look at it, he is attempting to exploit this situation and this child. He is either doing it to sell the photo, or further his career, or even to inform the world of the plight of starving children.Quote:

There are also better ways to attract attention to the plight of starving children than to take pictures of them in situations like this. This will only serve to horrify people and make them turn away, not make them help.
sensationalist images like this only serve to draw attention and discourse away from the actual issues, and people who take them are dicks.
wow, I kind of went off on a little rant there.
Like what? I can't think of a better way for a journalist to help countless children than by taking a picture of this one and showing the world.Quote:

Manic Street Preachers wrote a song about Kevin Carter - that's the video.
the problem with a picture like this is that it is going to create a visceral reaction in a lot of people that is going to cause them to turn away and avoid it. not only will they avoid looking at the photo, they will also avoid thinking about what the photo is showing them. Those who do look will most likely talk about whether the picture is appropriate, and not about what can be done. The picture is too disturbing to serve as an effective tool to raise public awareness.Quote:

The vulture is an idiot, not gonna be any meat on that one.
Knew you'd say something like thatQuote:

Like at least scare the vulture off or something. Or KILL it and feed it to the kid, then you're a hero.
