Played Correctly?
Hello All, I'm new to FTR and somewhat to Poker. Have been playing a while, but just started to take it seriously enough to try to educate myself. Have been reading through the articles here and found them very helpful, especially the advice on SNGs since that is where I am concentrating now. And the "Newbie Circle of Death" post by storm75m was very funny since I'm basically at the end of that cycle now.
Anyway to the point! I would like advice on a hand I played last night in a 6 handed SNG with 5 players left, blinds are 50/100. I appologize for not having the hand history to post.
MP: x
Villian: 1500
SB (Hero): 1100
BB: x
UTG: x
Preflop: Hero is KK
2 folds, Button Calls, Hero raises 3xBB from SB, BB folds, Button calls
Flop: (900) 5 9 10 rainbow (2 players)
Hero checks, Button Bets All-in, Hero Calls All-in
He turns over Q10, catches a Q on the turn and takes the pot.
The action had been fairly aggressive and I read that the dealer would bet if I checked the flop, so I hoped to check-raise. I feel good that I got my chips in with the best hand, but wonder if I should have pushed him off the pot.
Thanks in advance for the advice, I will do better with the hand history next time.

Played it fine, bad beat on the turn.

raise bigger pre. bet/call flop.

Here it is the truth: If you get your money in when you are ahead on the hand you made the correct play. As simple as that.

I usually bet the flop on this. Don't know if it would have made any difference with this particular villain... he seems pretty determined to get his TP all in. I agree with the others on the rest; you got your $$ in good and just an unfortunate beat.

Hi and welcome to FTR, it's good to have you here!
I would make it 350-400 to go preflop, then open shove the flop. Don't give a free card on the flop - a) opp indicated he likes his hand preflop and there are no real scarecards on that flop and b) you will feel sick if you give a free card, the turn comes 8 or K and he has QJ.
Otherwise, I agree with the others, you got your chips in as an 84% favourite preflop and an 80% favourite on the flop, keep on getting your chips in good like this and you will make money over the long run.
