because the nerves are asleep/not working and that is why its tingling? that would be my guess, but i have no idea....good question
I thought it was "waking up" when it's tingly. It was 'asleep' just prior. It's not the nerves per se, it's the blood rushing back to the area you were cutting off (sitting with one leg tucked under on a chair or whatever) and the nerves sensing the blood rushing in as they reach the end of the capillaries.
My highly edumacated guess :: ha ha ::
yeah but why do they call it that
I'm guessing that "falling asleep" is quicker and easier to say than the clinical, jargon-filled term for the phenomenon.... whatever that is.Quote:

You curiosity could probably be better spent pondering more fundamental questions like "what is the meaning of life" and "why is that every time I take a dump I have to pee, but I don't have to take a dump every time I pee".
edit: not just spent, but better spent.
goodnite all.
The answer seems pretty obvious? If you think of an inanimate object and try to apply the human behavior of "sleeping" to it, it would be when it is turned off, such as a car. Your hand is not inanimate but it is not concious, so its the same sort of idea. Its fuel is restricted, and therefore the nerves cease to work. Something not working, is resting.
As long as we are asking odd questions, why refried beans? Why don't we just eat fried beans?
thats another good one!Quote:
