Rich Boy-Lets get this paper
Snoop Dogg - Hennesey and Buddah
mother love bone - stardog champion
Under Pressure - Queen
I'm posting two songs since they are the two best grinding songs in existence due to length and repeat value and obv awesomeness.
A Change Of Seasons by Dream Theater. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nue36kDfbZY It's a shame that youtube doesn't seem to have the studio version. So this guitar queero one is the next best. God I hate that game.
Probably the second best band ever. Petrucci is tied in first as best guitarist ever. A Change Of Seasons has the highest dynamics of any song I've ever heard. This is partly because it's so long. I personally consider it the best song ever. And that's a hard decision since Is Anybody Here by Tim Reynolds exists. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDJDVESmfsA ZPMG since I mentioned Timmy I guess I gotta post it. Not a song to grind to, though.
Disco Science by Mirwais. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_gaOguIsV0
Probably the most perfect grinding/spacing/trancing song there is.
one more red nightmare by king crimson
dream theater is the god damned gay
La Grange
bebel gilberto - cada beijo (thievery corporation mix)
"sandstorm" by Darude
get the long version
The Prodigy - Breathe
Sandstorm is played out imoQuote:

Anybody who doesn't like the guitar supremacy this man puts out doesn't have a soul. I'm serial.

I'll tell you the same thing i told him: IMO, Dream Theater lacks soul. They are really REALLY good at playing guitar drums and keyboard (meh their bassist is decent but not visionary), but there music has no soul.
Soul is pretty undefinable but i'll try. It's catchiness/appeal, but at the same time its not. Even some of the most obnoxious music can have soul (example Nirvana). I guess soul is sort of the combination of catchiness, originality, passion, and pain.
IMO DT is unoriginal, not catchy (although that one is super subjective obv), and seems pretty devoid of passion. Also the pain ingredient prob isn't there because iirc DT aren't huge drug abusers. To me they are just a Iron Maiden slash Metallica clone except with a lot less soul and a lot more musical talent.
So by your logic gays are soulless? So...GAYS ARE ZOMBIES< RUN
A newer example of a band with soul would be System of a Down.
They aren't stellarly instrument talented, other than their drummer, who is extremely good. They have a 2nd-3rd tier guitar player, and a 4th tier bassist. Their music is obnoxious as hell. However, they are undeniably original, and definitely passionate about their music.
Renton is right on.
Musicians against DT unite. They're musical masturbators.
Yeah well said renton. I'm a huge metal fan but can't stand DT.
The following is dream theatre LIVE 1/4. 2-4/4 are located on the right hand side of the link.
I've never heard of this band before so this song is new to me and let me say this: WOW! I've never heard a band before with more soul and passion before. 5 stars!
My OP input: Daft Punk.
ok, what song
sorry, i like everything by them.
if one?....
"One more Time"

The way you make the possession of soul sound is that of a handicap or something. It seems to me abnormal to feel that more advanced technical efficiencies (both instrumental and theoretical) aids in vacating soul, as you suggested to me. How can soul even be categorized? Maybe you feel early Green Day put in a more instinctive feel than DT. On the flip side, DT pwns in technical and theoretical understanding, and the nature of music/sound is that that is an aspect of wielding its talent, and it is no less instinctive. Anybody who does something and loves it has soul.
What has more soul: Ivey MS Paint or The Mona Lisa? Who has more soul at the poker table: A 24/20 or a 14/10? The answers are neither because soul cannot be categorized, and it comes natural and is part of what drives us to keep trying to achieve our goals. I know I don't know exactly what you mean, though, and I doubt that you feel you can describe it adequately in the first place.

DT are musical masturbators. They play notes for the sake of playing notes, not for any sense of musicality.
Even if you're right about them playing just to play, that's still a huge part of musicality.
And I wholly disagree, obviously. I cannot for the life of me distinguish any differences between musicians other than technique/theory and style.
And honestly, if I wanted to deride bands I don't like much that are not technically advanced (Green Day is a great paradigm here) I'd say something like what you say. That they play for the money and women and fame and if they were true musicians they'd spend so much time with their instruments that they couldn't help but be masterful musicians.
Well, its not taht being instrument prodigys destroys the soul. Its just a general trend.
Two of my favorite bands are primus and rush, both power trios with ridiculously talented instrumentalists.
Also, writing great music, generally speaking, has almost nothing to do with instrumental ability, and everything to do with composition. The ability to compose great music requires instrumental ability only to a certain point, and originality/passion/pain (soul) most of all.
Which is why instrumentally mediocre bands like Tool, SOAD, Nirvana, etc, will always blow the asshole out of Dream Theater.
Well, it's for certain that we cannot argue about the most factiest truth that has ever been truly facted, and that is: TOOL IS THE GREATEST BAND THAT HAS EVER EVERD
Seriously, though, do you think that A Change Of Seasons is poorly composed? Sheesh, that's like the most awesomely composed band song I've found.

Have u heard any of the DT offshoots like LTE and Petrucci's solo stuff? Do you think that if Tool performed DT's compositions the music would have soul?Quote:
