On PF 3-betting...

So fired up FullTilt this weekend since I'm locked out of Rakeback at UB. I like the resizable tables, hate the slowness of the interface. I'm running a decent PC w/ 1.2GHz Pentium and 4GB RAM, and I can't see being able to more than 4-table here. Guess I got spoiled by how crisp the UB UI was...

Anyhoo... to my question...

At UB $10NL FR almost NEVER got 3-bet back at. First of all, the tables were way tighter (<25VPIP on average), and over 20K hands, would guess I've been 3-bet PF less than a couple of dozen times.

Put in 2K hands at FT this weekend and was facing a 3-bet prolly 40% of the times I was in a pot. So my questions... Should I assume the top end of their positional raising range when they 3-bet and play accordingly? Does the size of the 3-bet tell me anything... some of these were 3x, but many were 5-8x the raise. Should I only 4-bet in position w/ like AA,KK and just call down everything else? Should I fold the bottom half of my raising range to a 3-bet? Do I ever want to be part of a 4+ MW 3-bet flop, and if so with what?

Is there like a tutorial sticky on responding to 3-bets?

You have basically asked an unanswerable question. If we could give you the correct answer, we'd all be multimillionaires.

search sauce123's posts. those will give you a good start. look around and ask in the 6max forum...they are much more equipped to handle 3betting/3betting light.

i would comment/give advice about AXs, small pairs, sc's, but not KQs, QJ, etc. but i am not qualified, for sure.

but, i will tell you this much:

-take notes on how many times a SPECIFIC player is 3betting you. if they do it quite frequently, note them as a "light 3bettor," and c/r the flop on them when it looks like they've missed and you've hit. hint: the bigger 3bets can (but not always) be someone that does NOT want a caller. think about this....if you are HU, do you want a caller if you pop a guy with your 33? you dont mind hitting your set, but you know its rare and are really not wanting to see a flop.

-watch the guys who do it oop. generally, this is an indicator of a real hand...or at least more so than the button doing it.

-watch the guys doing this from the blinds. many times its an aggro "defending." bust him with a raise when he cbets a few times to chill him out.

**all of the above require "READS," so sharpen your note-taking about SPECIFIC TENDENCIES of individual players. PT is not enough here.

there are SOME players at 10NL that have the hang of 3betting, but most suck at it and are simply overplaying marginal hands. find out who is who and bust the crappy ones.

one more thing...

calling a 3bet requires a stronger hand than doing the 3betting. thats what they are exploiting. and its scrarier than a normal raise, too.

to counter a 3bettor, you 4bet. thats the best way.

but, you can also start learning when to do the 3betting yourself. and now may be a good time to start.

dude 4gb of ram and 1.2 ghz cpu? that is wacked! i run a 3ghz p4 with 1gb of ram with no problems playing 8-12 tables.

anyways, you should avoid calling 3 bets lightly against most normal opponents. if you raise with a pp you should only be calling if you are getting good enough odds. you shouldn't be calling big re-raises when your only hope is to hit a set.
